Hi,

I have -84 and I want to take out the wire harness in the engine bay that comes out through the firewall between the battery and the brake booster. How do I separate the connectors? Seems to be 2 big "plugs".

Thanks,

MN

Unplugging

I don't know how your year is made, but usually those 'bulkhead' connectors have a catch on each of the long sides. Often, there is undercoat or glop hiding the catches so try to scrape the glop off. It's necessary to depress the connector with the 'male' part of the catch inward (by squeezing the sides together) in order to release the catch. Sometimes it's necessary to insert a small screwdriver in each side to depress the male part inward. The 'female' part of the catch is usually attached to the firewall side of the plug/socket. A lot of wiggling helps, don't pull on the wire.
This is very unclear, hope you can understand it. Wish I had a photo.

Yep, there's going to a lot of goop to deal with, and if memory serves me well, the block is bolted together right in the center (1 bolt), as well as having clips. They wanted to keep it secure, so it can be a pain removing.

You can't even seperate the connector on the passenger side of the firewall, again, if I remember correctly. ;)

Hi, pulled the connectors yesterday. Went pretty smooth after your hints - thanks! It is a bolt in the center on -84 s as well. 1/4" head.
