I recently ran across a c2 stingray upside down, roof crushed(including windshield pillars) But the frame looks good. Apparently its been in the woods and on its roof for a long time so the frame was not terribly rusted. The only things left on the car is a crushed glass body, frame, some front suspension, and most or all of the rear and rear brakes/suspension is there. I am a german car fan, but know and appreciate a potentially beautiful thing when I see it. I am unsure of title as of yet and it looks like it'll take a heap of $ to get it out of the woods. Please advise as to wether, and to what expense should I proceed to save this old beast.

Welcome to the CAC!

It's always traumatic to see what was once a beautiful car rolled on it's roof, rotting away and the urge to rescue her can be dangerously expensive.

Depending on just how trashed the car is, it might serve better as a parts car for someone who has a complete body with a rusted frame. If there is enough car left to justify restoration, it will be expensive. It's expensive to restore a complete car, let alone one that's damaged and incomplete.

If you are legitimately interested in this car, you could find a CAC member who lives in the area and knows C2s to come take a look and give you the benefit of his knowledge. I know of a couple other Maryland CAC members just off the top of my head (PJ67 & Chuck G) so there's no doubt more guys out there in your area.

Good luck!!

ps: a buddy of mine stuck a VR6 into his 82 Sirocco along with a full roll cage so I know what you mean about German metal.

Greg and Juliet Page are in Maryland, too.

I'm thinking parts car. Probably all of the body is cracked, so you're looking at 10 or 20 grand just in bodywork. And that would just be the beginning of the whole project. :eek

I live in Harford County, Maryland.....in the "north" :), while PJ is George Bush's neighbor near Camp David. Sounds like this would be a parts car. Would likely cost well in excess of the completed value to restore this one. Chuck

I am not going to be the person who brings it back to life. What I am more after is seeing it not rot away to nothing in the woods. I could not possibly take on this project. What I need to know is an educated guess as to what the frame itself is worth, so that I can formulate if the thing is worth further investigation, and or dragging it away. I appreciate your guys input...thanks.

A decent restorable frame (ie, surface rust, but no serious damage) would probably bring around $2500 to $3000.

thanks, looks like this may be worth saving...

I'd check first if the frame is tweaked. I don't know whether or not a rollover could damage the frame.

where in southern Maryland you actually located?

The way I firgure it...it is in the woods for a reason. It was probably stolen a long time ago and stripped for all it was worth......and then flipped over. But I will definately be checking with more scrutinyfor the tweakage the next time I visit her.

Check to see if the serial number plate is intact and have the police run the number through the NATB. (National Auto Theft Bureau) If it still shows up on the hot list (even after many years) you don't want to be messing with it unless you can get clear title from the insurance company involved, if any, or the state. The frame is serial numbered and you don't want the problem of being in posession of stolen property.

If it's not hot the police might be able to tell who owns the car or how to obtain title on an abandoned car.

Frame info

If you do decide to pull that poor beast out. Take it to "Two Guys" body shop near hollywood, MD. They have cumputerized laser measuring for frames. I doubt there are specs for this old a car in their data base but they should be able to detect any twist, diamond or sway in the frame as well as measure one side vs the other from centerline. Calvin is the owner of "Two Guys" body shop. (I sell frame equipment to body shops in MD) Good luck!
