OK everyone. This may sound a little crazy, but my friend and i have thought up this idea that we could use an electric leaf blower as a turbo. We have it worked out pretty well but there are a lot of potential problems. Would the leaf blower blow too much air into the engine, or not enough? Also, would the leaf blower drain the battery? Here's a diagram we made for his truck that we think would work. Please tell about any potential problems. Good idea or bad idea? (note: this is from a honda board. I do not endorse it.)

This idea has been covered here before. The McGuyver in me says hell yes it would work. If I recall the engineers said no because of not enough boost and drag on the alternator. Why don't you hook it up and go for a ride?

I doubt if the blower would even work... It draws way to much current on startup for a converter ;) might end up with some very, very, very hot wires might even cause a melt down...

Won't even come CLOSE to moving enough volume of air to create any boost. :(
The engine would just suck the leaf blower right down the carb. At WOT a chevy v8 moves a mountain of air.

actually the leaf blower will work. however you have to add an extra washer bottle and pump to the system. hook the blower up as shown in diagram. then add the washer res. and direct a length of hose towards the front of both rear tires. fill bottle with tranny fluid
after you show all the ricers your 'new-found' power booster. proceed into a smoky burnout all down the street. leaving them amazed at the cheap horsepower that can be had.
just don't turn around to race them.

Hmmm, even if the leaf blower could be amped up to the point where it was pushing a mountain of air, what's to keep it from blowing out the backup intake? :eek

As much as I like to encourage the innovative spirit, I'm afraid this one is doomed. The world isn't ready for a Vette with a built-in leaf blower.

At first I thought this was April 1st!! But, leave it to a Ricer board to come up with it!

If you already bought the leaf blower, they work great to blow the water off your car and out of all the joints after you wash it - leaves very little water to chamois off; all is not lost.... :D

A more important question: Can I use a turbo for a leaf blower just making 1 more good reason or justification for buying a turbo?:L

You get a high rise cowl and sit my Stihl 340 2 cycle on top of the plenum, that sob would blow some boost but would sound funny.

A while back a fellow was contemplating a 2 battery 24 v sytem that would get about 5 lbs boost. Didn't follow the outcome. Somebody is going to figure this electric turbine out and get rich, no kidding. With all the spinning drive shafts a source of sufficient power generation could be invented to eliminate battery power. Hey reducing the vacuum to zero or slight positive with no parasitic belt loss would have to get some hp.

This train of thought is surprisingly not chemically induced. I'm ready for the onslought.

now thats the kind of spirt i like :upthumbs

i guess nobody likes my idea of making 'pretend' tire smoke to impress

years ago i guy showed me that trick. to dump tranny fluid on the tires. he used to bet he could do a better burnout with an old clapped-out grand prix

A guy I knew years ago re-routed his windshield washer sprayers over the back tires and filled the bottle with a bleach and water mixture... just used the factory pump button when he wanted to really smoke 'em.

Maybe I should convert my bottle... haven't used it in years. Nor have I figured out how to remove it without taking half the car apart. It's like the heater core... they must have built the car around it.

Brian, haven't seen you here in awhile. PM me your address. i have something here to mail you.
