Rain,

I would check out the radiator and all that stuff up front. If you have to replace that stuff, it will start getting expensive pretty fast.

And I hope that the rear suspension isn't damaged either.

What does the title say?

its listed abotu 25 minutes away from me at a Corvette Junkyard.
Cruising up there tomorrow morning to check out the whole lot and such.

He also has :
Year: 1982 Color: Silver Beige Body: Coupe
Engine: L-83 Cross Fire Injection Transmission: Automatic Interior Color: Silver Beige
Mileage: 218 Title Type: Clear Title
Other Information This car has never been title in the original dealer certificate of origin. All books and window sticker are included.

Lord only knows what he wants for this jewel! HAHA

Here are the specs on the Z06
2001 Corvette ZO6 $22,500
Year: 2001 Color: Silver Body: Fixed Roof Coupe
Engine: LS-6 Transmission: 6 speed Interior Color: Black/Red
Mileage: 21,021 Title Type: Salvage Certificate Damage: Front Bumper
Other Information Car needs front bumper cover replaced along with a few wheels and tires. All parts to repair included in the price.

the bumper can be replaced by unbolting it and bolting on a new one; it would be interesting to see why it has a salvage title. There is a Corvette junkyard about an hour from me that has "rebuildables" I look at his website from time to time altho I think he is a little on the expensive side.

Isn't there a Dino's Corvette Salvage somewhere down there?

yea, they just built a new complex.
Dropping by there tomorrow morning for a "look see".

Did the air bags deploy ? If so that will take quite a bit to bring back to stock.
Looking at the Pictures it is hard to realy see what the dmg is I did not see that the hood had been pushed up so my guess is that there might not be a ton of dmg.
But the guy might have run over something and the underside is trashed,
I would try to get it lifted up and see what it looks like underneath if you dont know what you are looking for then take somebody who knows late model vett's.
Dont make an offer until you figure what is needed to get it going again. then make an offer that is way less than what they are offering. you can always ask them to replace the wheel and other parts that are missing course they might tell you NO :)
Good luck
Earl

Thanks.
the interior shot shows a pristine interior - so my guess is no airbag deployment.

Careful

Seems funny that it would have a salvage title with damage "only" to the front bumper and it needing new wheels and tires. That doesn't seem to me to meet the % of value for repair vs total/replace. I'd check closely for damage to the drive train and the frame--that seems to me where the costs would go up so that the car would be totalled vs repaired. Good luck, and be careful. Andy

I think the salvage title stigma goes back to the insurance company that had to settle with the owner. When they "total" a car that means its beyond practical and economic repair in their eye .... and (darnit!) if they say it is beyond repair then it is beyond repair .... keeps the insurance company looking legit I guess.

The "salvage" brand really shoots-down the possibility of great profits on a re-build and re-sale.

I hear that! I have a friend who was trying to sell a nice Porsche Cabriolet, only a few years old, but it had a salvage title and no one would be interested once they heard that. He was practically giving the car away too - it was a seventy-thousand dollar Porsche that he was selling for about half that price. He was willing to let anyone take it to their own mechanics too, so they could verify the car's integrity.

He finally did sell it and the new owner is happy as a clam.

I think the story would be a lot worse looking with the car on a hoist. :(

I'll bet there's a lot more damage than a first glance would offer.
Yeah. I'm very suspicious. My '97 had $13,000 damage and wasn't considered totaled (i.e., salvage). This may be too good to be true.

Be careful, Rain.

Maybe there's a place that can make it as good as new?

Dave

yea, might be the only way I can afford a Z06..
buy a wrecked one and do a few gigs and odd jobs for my buddy's body shop. (he has a 96 CE that sits in his showroom garage at home, so he understands Vettes and such)

Keep yall posted - Rain

The damage doesn't look as bad as some I've seen. You might as well have it repaired. You'll miss it if you don't.

just a speedy reply -
made it to Dino's today.
60 miles away, not a bad trip.

he is going to have the largest Corvette Salvage yard in the US.
Internet based catalog since 2000. Specializes in parts(half of what new costs) but also deals in fixer uppers and will broker deals for you at Insurance Auctions.

Was there when the Z06 came off the truck. Had to put tires on the back to get it off the carrier.(had 6 vettes on a 10 car carrier.. nice site- shame they were all wrecked)
The Z06 needed a new front cap, the impact bar/beam behind that, and what looked like an L-bracket on the pass side of the beam. New ZO6 rims and probably tires too.
Bit of fiberglass work and a replaced driver rear quarter panel.
Apparently some kid owned this one previously.. (based on the extensive amp/speaker box system that ran from the rear seats to the trunk lid) Really shocked that the auction company did not scavange that stuff out.. must have missed it under that carpeted panel.
;)

Dino changed his mind and said he could have it as a daily driver in a week's time. BUT, he does have another Z06 that he and his brother in law are repairing in the back bay. Aprox a week on that repair too.

Expect to have lots of good things to say about Dino's Corvette Salvage in the near future -

So do you think he'll sell the Z06?

How much do you think will it take to get it running like it should?
