My Dad used to own one back in the day and to this day he talks about that car like it was yesterday. With all he has done for me in my life, the least I could do is try to track down one of the 2,000 made, fix it up if needed, and give that to him as a thank you.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Thanks,
Liz

Excuse my stupidity, but whats different/special on the 68 1/2?
I have a 69 and never heard of the 68 1/2.. thanks!

My Dad says the 68 1/2 were the first Corvettes to have the incondescent lighting before that officially came out in the 69's.

I'm not a Corvette expert so I'm trying to get him to talk more and more about his old car (the specs) as best as I can without making him believe I'm up to something. :)

Fiber Optic Lighting ??

Liz:
Your intentions are wonderful - - maybe his tongue will loosen up with a few glasses of holiday egg nog and you can encourage him to extoll the virtues of his first Vette for details.

Is it possible that he's refering to "fiber optic lighting" ? I think fiber started in 70-- but it was a feature on the console that indicated lighting status around the car.

You're to be commended for your generosity and love for your Dad - - hope you find exactly what you're looking for. All the great people involved with this board- I'm sure- will assist in any way possible.

Fiberoptics were introduced with the 68 model year, and continued through the 71's.

Generally a model year of a particular car will be called a "1/2" model is when there was a particular or significant change made to the model during the model year, or if a partilcular model was introduced during the middle of the model year.

I think what her father was referring to is the fact that in April or May several running changes were made to the '68 Corvette. These included:

The addition of "grab handles" to the inside of the doors.

The relocation of the seat back releases to a higher position.

A relocation of the outside mirror to a point farther back on the door.

The addition of additional heat shields between the engine and the floorboards.

Revised engine cooling measures such as additional seals between the hood and radiator.

I've heard some of what you are saying before.

It's true! I had a '68 that I bought new and I knew every inch of it. The changes I mentioned made me do a double take when they were introduced. I thought someone had customized their '68 until I started seeing all late ones come through with the same changes.
