WTF??? Transmission parts are expensive!

Well, I called a shop that deals in the corvette ZF transmission, and the guy seemed pretty knowledgable about the trans and suggested the reverse gear probably welded itself to the main shaft after the bearing overheated because bad oil circulation is a common problem with the post-'93 ZF's.

But the Killer was when he said the replacement parts were going to cost around $1800!!! That's just for the main shaft, 2nd and reverse gears, the bearings, and the seals! :eek

He said that he would give me a rebuilt one for my old one for $2500!!! :eek

Anyone else have a place to get transmission or transmission parts cheaper? I just got the car a couple months ago and I really can't afford to spend that kind of money right now to buy another transmission. I never thought the transmission would fail because the one in my Camaro was superb (I thought they were the same until after I bought the car), an dI never imagined the parts would be THAT expensive to fix it. uuugh!

Also, does anyone know what's involved in putting a more reliable Camaro 6-speed transmission in the Corvette? I haven't actually looked at the transmission in the corvette yet so I don't know how they differ.

It would be easier to get a tranny out of an earlier C4 instead. The other option is the Richmond Gear 6 speed (I know how much you love Richmond LOL). but it is made for the C4, as a conversion from the old 4+3 tranny they used from '84-'88.

Another option is to call my vette tech. you may know him through phil and the gang, otherwise you can call me at 321-626-1025 and I can put you in touch with him. He can probably get parts for much cheaper, and is local to you anyway.
