So I have had muffler eliminators on my 93 Rubie for a couple months. This past week I spent all week trying to get my x-pipe from Advanced Automotive on the car. No muffler shop in my area wanted to install it. I can't imagine why.:eyerole So anyways me being a auto tech by trade, I'll figure a way out to do it. I did. I took the x-pipe to monroe they punched out my x-pipe on one end to slide over the pipes just before the resonator. Then my pipes after the resonator where punched out so the x-pipe fit inside it. I had to cut the little hanger deweys (the ones that hold the two pipes together to get this to work). Had to spread the pipes. Clamped it all in place with some u clmaps up front and band clamps in the rear. Pain the arse to do by the way. The pay off was worth it.

The sound is cleaner, louder at idle, no more crackleing and popping all the time-just a little below 2000rpm on decel but very muffled. Inside with the elimators and the Resonator, resonace was an Issue, very loud and not enjoyable. It is just about gone with the x-pipe. Very nice to drive. No louder than before on the exterior just very clean nice sound. Changed the tone mostly. Rev's freer too...They call me Rev it Up Roy at work for a reason.;) All in all a great mod if you run muffler eliminators, great powerful sound when your on it. Not to bad at all cruising around. I love it!!!! Plus it makes my Vette the loudest one around, unless you got a big block. OH, and remember to :w

Been thinking about replaceing my exhaust with a magna-flo cat back setup, just may also install the x pipe too.:w

The x-pipe is awesome. Glad to see you found a way to install.

Everything you said about yours, I could say about mine. Smoother, cleaner sound. More power. No cackling on decel. Almost totally eliminated any droning inside of cabin.

I put mine on a couple of years ago. Should have done it sooner!

AFTER INSTALLING YOUR X-PIPE, PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO SAVE THE :w!

x pipe or y pipe with crossover?

What brand x pipe did you install? Is the X pipe the same as a y pipe with a crossover?

I installed a Magnaflow x-pipe.

An x-pipe is in the shape of an "X".

An h-pipe is in the shape of an "H".

Neither one has anything to do with a y-pipe.

I installed my x-pipe in place of my resonator. The resonator on a 96 LT4 engine is located in the middle of the car. Looks like a long muffler with two (2) inlets and two (2) outlets.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SAVE THE :w!

You are correct. In the old days, car companies would use an "H" pipe in the middle of the car between the two pipes of the dual exhaust.

With you only having one pipe traveling down the center, the crossover tube in the rear "Y" pipe does the same thing. Equals out the pulses from one side to the other side and smooths out the exhaust note and sound.

SAVE THE :w!

Search for your choice of exhaust befor you buy.... on this and other corvette websites.... and purchase with your eyes wide open

When I have your wounded

FYI, I got mine from Advanced Automotive of Cape Coral

Its for LT-x engines and will require some modification to the exhaust system. I know I put it in myself. Not to big of a job once the pipes are expanded. Or take it to the local muffler shop they SHOULD be able to expand the pipes and have it welded in no time. I say should because my local and only shop is some lazy guy that wants to just bolt crap together and didnt want to touch it. So I got the pipes expanded, did all the cutting, and some band clamps and I have x-pipeage. WARNING!!! More than likely as my orgianal pipes are 16 years old they may split when trying to get them to expand, mine did, the band clamp got most of it, and some exhaust putty sealed the little hole. IF you have access to a welder and CAN weld (i can't, and dont have a MIG), this is a much easier job. ALSO, you little put the expander in the pipe and turn it with a wrench wont work on this x-pipe very thick stuff, you will need professional exhuast expanding equipment. See Monroe Muffler, they hooked me up for free. Had to travel a bit to get it done, though.

I'm thinking about doing this to my 95's Stock Exhaust.I wonder how restrictive the Stock Resonator is? Should free up some HP and Improve Sound?

I have mine with no mufflers and 3 inch pipe in place of them, the stock resonator is still in place and it makes all kind of vintage Corvette sounds. You will hear pops, cracks at times when you come down off of high RPMs but I have 76 too so I am use to it. The x-pipe is ok, but if I am cutting my exhaust again it will involve headers, high flow cats, x pipe.... I can weld so I know what involved and I prefer not to waste time cutting, fitting, welding unless I am going to make a difference. That is what I learned when cutting the mufflers off the first time....but if you got time and nothing to do.....why not....

On the X pipe. Is the area of the pipe in the cross equal to the total area of the two pipes coming in ?

In the future if my cat starts to rust out I may build one. At present I have a cat back system that I built. Is 3 inch OD 304 food grade stainless. I also built the mufflers but still intend to do some triple tips. My daughter will bring her video camera this weekend so I can record and post a video with sound. Went to a small car show, more of a social event and got some pretty good reviews on it. :D

Stock resonator has NO restrictions as it is nothing but straight pipe through a muffler housing with packing inside and perforations inside the straight pipe. With my muffler eliminators and the resonator the thing didn't go its job tons of interior noise and resonance. With the x-pipe much smoother almost no interior resonance and almost no cracking and popping on deceleration. I like it much better with the X than without it. Plus its less weight.

With exhaust sounds it is highly subjective....

See link in one of my posts further up the page to see the x pipe I bought.
