X-Pipes

A fellow at work had one installed in his 2001, claims it stops that gurgling.
(I've grown sort of fond of it myself) :)

Among other things, it replaces the "H" pipe that is stock on the C5.

The X-pipe smoothens out the exhaust pulses bewtween the two sides of the LS1/6, and doesn't change the sound level of the exhaust as much as it makes the tone more even, i.e., it gets rid of the "motor boat" idle sound.

I have one and wouldn't be without it -- it should be stock.

I crawled under my c5 and found an x pipe, along with an h pipe. the x was in front of the cats and the h was in back, almost at the point where the rear pipes meet up with the intermediate pipes. i wonder if this is good or bad?? should i remove the h?
sorry, dont mean to hijack your thread, Just wanted to share my .02

You crawled underneath your 'Vette?!?! That's quite a feat and you need to gain some weight.

An X-pipe replaces the stock H-pipe (located aft of the cats) and is more effective in balancing the exhaust pressures from the left and right side headers. As far as noise differences between the two, I can't say for sure; I had a Bassani X-pipe put on but had a Corsa pacecar exhaust installed at the same time. As stated earlier, many replace the H-pipe to eliminate the "gurgling" heard on decelleration.

Sounds like you are not the first owner of your car.

Whoever had it before you, made the mistake of installing an "X" pipe without removing the "H" pipe. One is meant to replace the other.

Given the ineffectiveness of the "H" pipe on the '97s, it is probably more trouble than it is worth to correct this faux pas.

I would try and put it out of your mind.

I am kind of curious about the x-pipe that is ahead (in front) of the cats. Not that it makes any difference whether the right side converter processes the exhaust gas from the left side of the engine (and vice-versa for the left side converter....), but.... Is the installation of the x-pipe clean (e.g. no sizing problems from the exhaust manifold to the converters)? Depending on how the x-pipe is installed, removing the x-pipe from in front of the converters and putting it in back of the converters where it should be could result in some additional power.

I installed the Corsa X pipe in my Y2K C5 about 6 months after I installed my Corsa Exhaust system . What it did was eliminate the motor boat sound at idle from my Corsa system and enhance the sound overall...:beer
