Friday my Vette got a present, actually 2, a new radiator and thermostat. I have been having some heating problems when in traffic and when temps got near 100. I replaced the 190 stock thermostat with a 180 and the radiator with a DeWitts all aluminum 2 row unit. After the install I let the car idle for about an hour in the garage with temps around 90 the cooling system settled down at about 185, not to shabby! Saturday’s forecast is for triple digits, so the real test comes then.
Anyone need an old used stock radiator from a 90?

That just looks so much better. How much more coolant does the DeWitts hold?

I can't answer that question, Edmond. I did not measure the coolant that came out vs what went back in. There is another row of tubes and the end caps look a little bigger, but I don't think it increased the overall capacity that much. As far as looks goes, it is to bad that in a C4 the radiator is all covered up! You can't see a thing.

New Radiator

Good move Bill... nothing like a cool running Z that will not suffer from heat stroke... Did you find much debris between the radiator and the condensor ? I doubt it collected much debris at all since new fans were installed just before you bought it. I take it the hoses were all in good shape down below ? The only additional item you might consider is the Big Mouth air duct... My car is also lowered and the Big Mouth has worked out fine in all respects...

I've thought about the "Big Mouth" Ted, but most of my problem was when stuck in traffic or slow in town. The only time I had trouble at speed (80 MPH) was when OAT was 105+, so I don't think the Big Mouth would help. I've cleaned the space between the AC condenser and the radiator twice in the last year. The first time I got a lot of sand out. The second time not much, just a couple of cigerette butts. We should charge the hiway department for cleaning the streets, these cars vacume up everything. It is only 75 outside now, they say later it should be over 100 so I'll go test it then. It did not overheat when driving around town like you said.

IT ONLY OVERHEATED WHEN YOU WERE DOING 145mph down the Freeway trying to CATCH Countryblue (Gary) in his Z06!!!!
