Well, not really a year old; only 288 days.
It's a 2009 with the options/color that I want, at a good price, sitting at a dealership several hundred miles away. Odometer shows 5 miles, so they obviously aren't driving it much.

Some people say that internal corrosion (cylinder liners?) could be a problem in the rather humid climate there, most folks say it should be fine.

If it looks good, should I drain the gas out before a test drive? That might be complicated.

What do you think?

I think you'll be OK .I bought an 08 late last fall and it had been at the dealers a Long time .It was in Peoria, GM Junkie picked it up and hauled it back to North Carolina and I never drove it till mid Jan. I had no Problem except paint finish where it had sat outside for so long.Junkie re-finished it better than factory.I got a hell of a deal .I'm getting a hell of a ride :D

They're full of it.

The odo might only show 5 miles, but I'll guess that engine has been started and run several times in the 288 days. Also, there will be a molecular thin layer of oil on the cyilnder walls what will resist corrosion. Lastly, it's not as if the cylinder walls were "open" to atmosphere. The throttle plate is closed and its likely only two intake valves are open, so most of the cylinders are "doublely" sealed off from air.

As for gasoline, with most dealers, you're going to find one of two things:

1) The car is low on fuel, so fill it and you'll mix a lot of new gas with old gas
2) The car was filled by the dealer just before delivery, so you have fresh fuel

In any event, while gasoline's design life is 6-8 weeks, pump gas is stable for up to a year, so for 288 days, I wouldn't worry other than, if the case is #1 above, to fill the tanks after you buy it.

Hib made some good points... and if I bought it, I'd run Chevron with Techron, Texaco with Techron or Shell gasolines in it. At least that's what I stick to with my C5. No pun intended. :chuckle

Good luck!
