Don't ask why cause I don't know... I didn't have to cut the "Z" Bar to get the shaft to work. What I did have to do was make the bellhousing mounting holes slightly larger... Bend and grind behind the bracket slightly near the bottom where the oil filter boss was interfearing. And grind a little of the ball stud nut ..bracket and tail of the ball stud.

This was done because when the bracket bolts were tightened..the Z bar shaft bound up slightly. Any way I mocked it up to day and I'm ordering new parts for the cross shaft internals..I do the final assembly when I get the parts.

Now ...the big question..??? How come 67 Heaven and Dennis Midyeras brackets didn't fit? Is it because there midyears are 1967 and mine is 1965?

Go Figure???

I'm thinking that it could be because your car (and therefore the Z-bar) was a small block. The car Dennis was working on, and mine, are both original BBC cars. If I remember correctly, I think we determined (in an earlier thread) that there are different part numbers for SBC and BBC Z-bars.

And, in my case, it was further complicated by my scattershield that sits in place of the bell-housing. I had to grind away lots of metal. :(

Lucky you. :D

Looking at your photos, I sure wish I had worked mine prior to dropping the body back on. That would have turned a full-day's job into a one-hour job (grinding, cutting and welding).

Dennis#1 ..car was a small block car with SB Motor and a BB Hood. Dennis #2 I think added the BB Diff yokes before finishing the car. At least that's what he told me he was going to do. I'm sure if midyear see's this..he might add to the post.

Also the difference between the BB and SB "Z" bar is only the angle of the lever closest to the motor ..due to the BB exchaust Manifold. They moved the lever backward some so it doen't hit the Manifold.

The rest of the demensions should be the same... :beer

You know, I've been considering a change to the name Dennis myself. I've noticed 4 or 5 Dennis's with midyears around and have begun to believe that it must go with owning a midyear.

How about a Dennis Registry at Carlisle? ;LOL

Isnt it wonderful when stuff actually fits !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like things are coming together real well.

Maybe you dont really have a 65 SB cross shaft ????

BTW - sorry I missed your call ealrier this week - I was out of town -- Sharon told me you had called

Yeah John,
I had a question for you ..but I figured it out. Sharon sounded very relaxed ..I guess she likes it when your out of town....No Corvette Talk... :L

As far as fitting goes...still had to grind and drill.. but that's better then cutting the Z bar..

I like that idea. I've noted before that Dennis and mid-year corvettes seem to go together like pb&j.

But then again, I may be biased.;)
Like the idea of a "Dennis" registry, though. Especially if we can get a tent to get out of the heat at Carlisle if we have it like we did last year.
