Z06 exhaust

I understand the 2002 and 2003 ZO6 exhaust system have only two converters instead of four and the converters have a different composition which allows the exhaust to flow better than the ones on the coupes/convertibles. Has anybody converted their coupe/convertible exhaust systems over to the Z06 exhaust. If so, what problems and improvements did you encounter?

Nope, but someday.
HI there,
You MUST also change the exhaust manifolds from the ZO6 along with the converters.
I have done a few, and the o2sensors are the same, so just swap them over.

Thank you for you response! Do you happen to know what the GM part numbers are for the manifolds, pipes and converters??
The parts guy I'm talking to at the local Chevrolet Dealer claims I need a Vin # from a Zo6 in order to get the correct parts.

I only installed the Z06 exhausts (mufflers) on my 2003 coupe and it does sound great, but hard to tell if there is any inprovement in performance. But when I installed the Z06 air box cover, there was some performance gain.:)

I understood the exhaust manifolds for the 2002+ Ls1 was the same as the LS6. Did I get bad info?

Thanks,

Lee

Lee,

I think that may have been the intake manifold, IIRC.

Okay, I'll bite. What happens if you don't change the exhaust manifolds? A 2002 2-cat H-pipe fit on my 2003 vert with no problem.

Look elsewhere to gain extra HP. Some good aftermarket mufflers and a free breathing intake will wake things up.
IMHO
Unless you are building a cammed out, stroked out, supercharged "fire breather" changing out the manifolds and what amounts to almost the entire exhaust just to dump the pre cats is a lot of work and expense for a very small horse power gain.

For the money you'd be spending it would be worth skipping on the stock Z06 stuff and looking at what the Z06 owners are switching out their stock exhausts for. If you are going to work the motor maybe you should consider going with some long tube headers and a matching exhaust system and free flow cats.

When I installed the Borla Shortie Headers I was shocked at how restrictive the stock ZO6 exhaust manifolds were. Just a comment about the stock system.

Can I install a 03 Z06 H pipe onto 2000 exhaust manifolds?

Two things.
1)-the is a GM service bulletin for a update dated H-pipe for the corvette's. You may want to check this out. Installs the same as the aftermarket pipes.
2)-why would you want to install a GM H-pipe when you can purchase a great aftermarket X-pipe for your Vette!.
Need to check out the aftermarket pipe.
Your question, I think you can install the '03 pipes on your '00 Vette? The manifolds maybe the same. Check with your local Chevy Parts Department for that!

One thing no one has mentioned or atleast did not see - is the weight factor of the ZO6 mufflers over the stock ones. You will gain more of an advantage from weight savings than HP gain by switching to ZO6 mufflers. The ZO6 are titanium a super light weight and strong metal.
