Z06 Light-less filling but still satisfying-

With the expected high MSRP of the new Z06 and initial ( and perhaps permanent short supply leading to dealer 'market adjustments' ) the car will be out of reach of many who want a bit more performance that the base C6.

In the C5 these buyers could specify Z06 for a reasonable amount and they could also actually get the car. Dealer gouging for the Z06 settled down to a low level. It was a good deal for those who wanted an enhancement above the base C5.

So now there will be a huge chasm between the base C6 and the new Z06. The price will be very high for most potential buyers and those who can afford the car will be standing in line with lots of extra cash to satisfy the dealers.

The solution? "Z06 LIGHT". Think about it. It would consist of the Z51 option with some engine performance enhancement added in. Could GM get an additional 25hp from the base engine with some induction, exhaust, and head work? Toss in a few neat new emblems and call it "Z05". Or call it whatever you like. Call it the "425". Charge a reasonable$4000 to $8000 for the package in the same range as the C5 Z06. Then sell a zillion of them.

Would this canabalize Z06 sales? I doubt it. The car would just be a slightly enhanced base C6. But just enough of an improvement to make it a popular enhancement. And....the chasm between the base C6 and the Z06 wouldn't be so gigantic. It would probably adversely impact the aftermarket boys but I'd rather get the 25 horses from the factory.

Z06 light.....whatcha say GM?

I could go for that. Especially some from the factory exhaust enhancements. These C6s are QUIET! I would gladly have paid a little more for some better sounding mufflers. A new Mousetang sounds better than a C6. Come on GM you could have given us a little more rumble and still met the sound requirements. If the blue oval can do so can you. That's the only complaint I have as far as the new C6 is concerned.

Interesting idea...and one that many will implement with a magnuson supercharger for 8 grand....installed....

The magnuson comes with a 3 year /36K mile warranty on the entire driveline...

It'll take a little while for the pcm to be accessed but once thats done...

a 525 hp ls2 should be very easy....

Z51 C6 are now running as much as 7500 dollar discounts to be moved off the lot.....

They already have 18 and 19 inch rims....WTH...

Sounds like a hell of a way to go....

I'd probably still go for the upcoming C6 Z06....but for those preparing to buy a new corvette....?

A supercharged C6 Z51 coupe would be tempting as hell.

Why not just take the base C-6 and 15K to a tuner and come out with 500 - 575 HP - in a vert, no less!

With the reported efficiency of the C6 heads, I think a cam swap along with some valve train and exhaust improvements would get you way more than 425 and spending way less than what the dealers would charge for the C6 Z06.

Yeah, there will be gouging but if there are those who are willing to pay, the dealers will keep gouging.:cry

I agree, but there's a lot left on the table with the LS7. Guys are getting 425 at the wheels with H/C on the LS6. I bet the LS7 will put 500 to the wheels with some tweaks. The heads are CNC'd from the factory. Just wait 'till the aftermarket gets a hold of this sucker! Drop the CR and strap a set of twins on it, it's forged. I can't wait to run one!!:D

I can't wait to start seeing the real world tests on the LS7's. It's going to be a monster and I would think that GM has purposely underrated the engine. They have tended to do that ever since the LT4 came out.

Or imagine a SC on that LS7?:D

I was thinking twin turbo, but getting blown is good too! :L

Sounds like a good idea to me. I already have the correct vanity plate on my 2004 Z06.

Let's keep this a family show!:L:L:L We'll have to save that stuff for The Edge:D

Heck, I think a computer tuning would net some nice horsepower with the LS7.
