C4C5Specialist,
I seem to recall a post you made a while back that mentioned changing the rear differential fluid at the first 7K miles. I don't know if I was dreaming or mistaken, I can't seem to find that thread anywhere now, and my owners manual doesn't list it anywhere in the "scheduled maintenance" section.
When should I change that, and with what?

thanks
Tammy

Nope, but someday.
HI there,
I only recommend this as a precaution, due to the friction modifier sometimes needing the change. Also the fact as the gears, clutches and the like are bedding in, and produce fine metal particles.
It is not that the differential lubricant wears out, as this is never the case.
This would cause a squeaking noise coming from the rear end on very tight turns left and right.
This is only a precaution, and NOT recommended by GM.
This is strictly from a service perspective, of what I have seen in the dealership from time to time.

good, so I wasn't dreaming?
It seems to me that if it doesn't hurt, and it MIGHT help, then it is something I want to do. This is the nicest car I've ever owned, and I would like to keep it that way.
I have heard of people switching to full synthetic rear diff. Do you recommend changing it out with that, or the same Dextron III as before?
TIA
Tammy

I think you're confusing your manual Transmission fluid which is Dexron III ( or you could use a synthetic equivilant )and your rear end fluid which is SAE 75W-90 Synthetic Lubricant + Limited Slip Lubricant GM P/N 1052358
