Hey guys, I just bought an 04 Z06 (my first Z06, but second C5 and third Vette) and I have two questions:

1) Do other Z06 owners find it difficult shift to second and third gears for the first 2 to three shifts to those gears when it's below 45 degrees out? Mine feels very notchy and difficult until about 3 minutes of driving, then it's back to normal.

2) How do you remove the ugly yellow and white stickers about the dangers of the airbags off the sun visors. I have been able to do this on the 99 and my brother 2002, but these don't seem to come off. . . .

Thanks!

470 miles and loving it!

1. Mine is a little bit more sluggish until it warms up a bit, but I don't drive very hard right away, anyway.
2. I took my stickers off the visors of my '02 Z06. I just started at one corner and slowly peeled them off. The sticker took a little black fiber with it, but when the sticker was gone I could not see where it came from. I was afraid that it would leave some type of mark, but it did not. I am not sorry that I took them off. In 30 years when someone wants to restore it to NCRS standards, I will be cursed, but so what? I'll be lucky to be alive then, so they can just dance on my grave!

HI there,
It will take more than 5000 miles to correctly bed in the syncronizers within the transmission.
So it may be a little notchy at first. The warmth and lubrication as the transmission warms up is normal.

Cool, good to know about the trans. I have been able to start removing the labels from the sun visors. They are not like the 2002 and earlier labels, they stick much more and come apart like an inspection sticker when you try to remove them. Patience will take care of it. . . I guess GM really wants you to keep them on. . . . I don't like that dumb proof stuff. . .

Thanks!

Rob

They peeled off my 2002 OK, but I could not find the logic in the warning label that said that children should be put in the rear seat.

I guess that you are supposed to put a car seat in the trunk well?

Come to think of it, not a bad idea, all children should ride in the trunk.

The trans might be better if you put synthetic ATF in it. I changed mine at 6,000 miles, it was getting dark anyway.

Synthetic ATF in a manual?

Yes, believe it or not the manual transmissions these days have gone to ATF instead of 90W gear oil.

Yes, the Borg Warner T56, along with other manuals (not all) take Dexron III ATF. On the Vette there is a label right on it stating that. . . .

HI there,
Due to the carbon composition friction cones within the transmission, your fluid will appear dark as time goes on.
This is normal, and in no way should be considered as fluid breakdown or oxidation.

In reference to the stickers. A hair dryer, pair of pliers, and duct tape will do the trick. Go to www.fixedroofcoupe.com for detailed instruction. Look in "How-To".

Duct tape! That sounds promising. I'll try it tomorrow! Thanks! Anyway, worst case scenario, I can get new replacements with my discount from the dealer for $120 for both. . .

Yes.
The factory fill in the C5 manual is Dexron III ATF.

You'll notice an improvment in shift quality, both while the trans is new and once it's broken-in, if you switch to Red Line D4 Synthetic ATF
