Threw them on today. Just got back from a test drive. The Borla shorties are very well engineered and go together very easily. The hardest part of the install was not getting a full turn on the bolts most of the time. As some of you know that have installed new plugs, fairly cramped quarters, especially on the driver's side. One funny thing happened though, put everything back together and fired her up, sounded awesome. I let the car come up to temperature and gave a few pokes of the throttle to look for leaks. Had some smoke over on the passenger side, so checked everything all was tight. Checked again and realized I forgot to reinstall the dipstick, doh! So to get to the test drive, better throttle response and hitting 100mph came sooner with less effort. So I'm a happy camper! The car does sound alot more aggressive and runs cooler @ 171 degrees @ 80 degrees ambient. The stock cast iron manifolds are also alot heavier, and conduct more heat. The Borla headers are T-304 stainless, and weigh a hell of alot less. Tomorrow I will torque the header bolts to specifications. The headers also come with super 8 cam locks that will go on as soon as torquing is complete. A nice package, worth the money. I did a comparison to the stock manifolds and I never realized how restricted they are, until I looked in the outlet and saw a big casting piece that bisects the outlet leaving two small outlets out of each stock manifold. As I was finishing up the UPS man showed up with my chromed ZO6 rims, my wife was asking me if that was the bra for the corvette, the same comment whenever a box arrives for me for the Z... :eek

Nice work! May sound childish, but I have been sending everything to mom’s house. Wife thinks I have been a good little boy. :J

Hey Slong, I sent you an email looking for your address, so I can send you the chrome rim pics. Hey good idea about your mothers house, but rims as a mod is too obvious to hide lol!! I ended up telling my wife I spent $1000.00 on them not the $2238.00 I spent on rims and Borla headers. I installed the headers before she got home, so they were well hidden. Boy, what we go through for our Z, hehe!

Todd,

What made you go with the "shorties?" All the dyno results I've seen show more hp/torque with longer primaries. I know you don't have to cut anything with the shorties.

Yeah Tom, I know what you are saying. I installed the SLP longtubes on my old 99 Hardtop. I didn't want to have to go through a legnthy preperation to install headers, so after buying the chrome rims at the same time, I opted to spend only an additional $799.00 on Headers that were just a simple bolt on. The only mods left to the exhaust for me are high flow cats, and a X pipe. I already have the Borla Stingers on the car. Other mods that I have done are:
1. Cut away the radiator shroud to grab air from below
2. Donaldson Blackwing with Powerduct
3. Granetelli MAF sensor
4. 160 degree thermostat
5. 90mm ported and polished throttlebody
6. 36# fuel injectors
7. Taylor 409 10.4mm wires
8. Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs
9. Diablosport Predator Programmer
10. Disabled the CAGS
11. Borla Stingers (2) Outlet
12. Borla Shortie Headers
13. ZO6 Chrome rims

Hey here is a link to see the car.

You are my hero Slong. That is a very good tip. I usually just lie about how much stuff costs.

Todd, the car looks very nice. When can we hear it???

Only problem is now everything cost even more because I have to keep buying stuff for mom so she keeps the secret. ;LOL

Not to mention having a shorter prep time prevented the wife from walking in on you doing the work and the subsequent questions that would follow. "Oh, how much did you spend on those?" :L

Only $799.00 Not too bad, but I need some high flow cats and the X pipe. I already have Borla Stingers. She would have asked if she saw them.

Gee. Ever check to see what the wife's buying???

A bud and his wife have played check-book-wars for years.

Todd,

Congrats on the new mods and definitely hear what your saying about the wifey..

Every mod I throw on costs... suprisingly only 25 dollars!

Enjoy!
