Hello all:

I began my ZR-1 rim polishing project today....

I removed the paint using a aluminum frendly stripper.

What I found next was a non-finished aluminum casting....my worst nightmare come true.. I seems that GM did not finish the wheel and covered that rough casting with several layers of paint to give the smooth appearence.

I am now using a grinding tool to finish the wheel.....and that takes time.

Anyone have any suggestions of any finishing compounds that i may use.

Anyone else experience this problem?

done a few sets and doing a set right now, best thing I have found is a sander and some polishing rouge...I also found that most polishers don't spin with the torque that I like so I finally found my cure...a sidegrinder I mounted a polishing wheel on it and it makes them look great.Takes time but I'm working on a set of 90s and they're coming along perfectly.
