Hi guys,

1987 Corvette, 4 + 3 standard trans, cruise control inop. I have a factory manual with supplements on my Christmas list, but for now all I have are the Haynes and Clymer manuals. They are all but useless for electrical problems. I worked all afternoon trying to trouble shoot my inop cruise control to no avail. I have a long trip coming up and sure would like to make it work.

Does anyone have an applicable wiring diagram for this car/cruise control???

Thanks!

I think the first thing I would look at is the vacuum system. If the vacuum is tight, then go on to the electrical but all the schematics in the world won't do you any good if that vacuum isn't there.

Ok, thanks so much for the info. Really good stuff!

The vacuum seems to check out. I imagine it is an electrical gremlin, as I have found a lot of them with this car so far.

Thanks,

I was going to suggest checking the pedal switches first....those sometimes end up being the "open" as a car ages and the pedal sags or simply wears a little. Test the appropiate fuse or breaker also.

If you're having other misc system irregularities, start with the grounds. The most common and usual "bundle" is just over your oil filter on a bolt in the bellhousing.
About 4 or 5 grnd wires (ecm & cruise incl) stacked right there. Also a ground strap (1/4") on the block to frame above the filter under the oil temp sender.

Mine turned out to be the clutch elect. switch. re adjusted and chruise worked fine. vette-03-1.jpg
