fuel gauge not working

anyone know why my fuel gauge qiut working after i had unhooked the battery to change the clutch master cylinder. all it shows with a full tank of gas is "reserve" it was working fine when i unhooked the battery and change the cylinder. could it be in the sending unit in the tank? if anyone has had the same problem please let me know as how you remeded it, thank you.

Easy enough to pull the gauge sender out to check it out
