Car won't start

Hello, have a 95 that will not start, my questions are, should I have fuel pressure at the schrader valve in the fuel rail? When I depress the valve a little fuel drips out, no pressure behind it. The fuel pump fuse is good. Should I have juice at the fuel pump with the ignition on? I unplugged the pump and with the key on I grounded one end of a test light and touched the other to each pin on the plug but the light would not light. Should I be able to hear the pump when I turn the key on? I also used a test light from pin to pin on the pump plug with no light lighting, thank you for your time and advice.:confused

The pump will go on to prime the system with fuel for just a few seconds so it does not flood out. It will then shut off until started.

You should invest in a 1995 GM Factory Service Manual (FSM). They are a bit pricey, but well worth it. A new one is about $200, but check eBay. They have used ones for a bit less.

Here's the schematic. If you can't see it clearly, right click on the image,
save it and print it out.

There are two sources to power the fuel pump. The PCM enables fuel pump relay #1
As long as the engine is running or cranking.
Otherwise when you turn the ignition on it only enables the relay for a couple of seconds,

Other source is if the oil pressure is above around 3 psi, 12 volts from fuse ECM Fuse#1
will provide 12 volts to the FP1 fuse#14 which goes to the fuel pump connector Gray wire.

Fuel pump relay #1 is located along the passengerside front edge of the dash. All of the relays
are the same so you can swap them around. Fuel pump relay #2 is used for the LT5 so it
may not be there.

Thanks for the help, it's really appreciated. I switched the relays around with no change. I took the fuel pump out and tried to run power to it direct from the battery and it still would not run. I know they are not to be run dry bit I just wanted to see if it would run. I ordered a cheap pump from e-Bay to see if that's the problem, it should be here on this Tuesday the 8th and I will let you know the results. Thanks again!

Beware of E-bay fuel pump sellers with very low prices compared to Authorized Distributors.

There is a company Global Automotive in Florida that sells a ton of AC Delco
fuel pumps on E-bay. He sells both AC Delco and cheap overseas clones.

I ordered a pump with the exact Delco part number listed in their ad. What I received was a Delco part number not listed by any Delco sites. He said he was an AC
Delco Mexico distibutor and that's why the part number was different. :L

I complained to E-bay and got my money back but lost $12.00 for return shipping.

Thanks for the info, at the time I ordered the pump I was not sure it was my problem so I ordered a real cheap one thinking if it's not the pump I'm out only $20.00 total for the pump and new strainer. Yesterday I took the strainer off the pump and found broken pieces of plastic locking the pump up. The pump is shot, I think it's the original 95 pump so I think I will get a good pump locally and keep the $20.00 one as a spare now that I am sure it was my no start problem. Thanks for the heads-up, I saw Global's ads on e-Bay when I was looking, good luck with your Corvette and happy motoring!

Make sure you attach the bottom strainer in the original orientation so it doesn't block
the float operation.

Might as well clean the bottom of the tank out and also install a new main fuel filter.

Here's a video. With the pump out, you don't have to worry about the siphon effect
which causes gas to continue to pour out of the filter filter inlet which usually happens.

Notice the guy removes the fuel filter with the front line still attached. He did this because
he couldn't get the front fitting loose..

Hey guys, I was out of commission with back problems but finally got around to being able to move. I replaced the fuel pump and that was my problem. The only problem I had was as I was putting my tools back I noticed the fuel strainer on the bench in my garage, not good. I just completely forgot to put it on the bottom of the pump. The pump is easy to get at once you do it once so I removed it again and put the strainer on, took about an extra 20 minutes I guess but was well worth it, don't know how I forgot it but I did. Car runs again, now I have a bad oxygen sensor to replace and hope that will be it for a while. Your help was greatly appreciated and very useful, I hope to be able to help you also if you have a problem in the future. THANK YOU!
