Hello All,
Well I have found a bazillon threads on Bose radio issues and replacement, what about replacement of a non bose system is it pretty cut and dry. My 96 has a delco radio with cassette and its time for it to go. I'll keep so a new owner can put back in if he wishes.
Thanks,
Steve

Replacing a non-Bose system should be fairly straight forward. You will need an antenna adapter to convert the GM miniature Motorola antenna connector to the "standard size" connector. You may also want to purchase a wire harness kit to preserve the OE plugs in case you do want to put the original head unit back in.

Thanks so much! It's my winter project, going to sound proof while I'm at it.

You'll also have to install a couple of resistiors in the wiring to prevent the 'SYS' dash light from flashing.

On my son;s 96 LT1, I saved myself all the aggravation and had a complete system, including four new speakers and a self-powered sub-woofer, installed by Best Buy.

Thanks Jake,
You don't happen to know where and why those resistors were put in? I have been buying my new system a little at a time over the last few months to make this a winter project so I don't think I can go to Best Buy.

Apparently the CCM looks for a certain resistance in the power wires to the stock radio and when it doesn't receive it, it causes the 'SYS' light for intermittently flash.

The absence of the resistors doesn't effect the performance of the sound system, it's merely a nuisance.

Earlier this year I recall reading about it on one of the Corvette forums, perhaps Corvetteforum.com. If you go there and do a Search you may turn it up. I do recall the resistors are available at Radio Shack and are really inexpensive; a couple of dollars.

When I log on the CF later today, I'll see if I can find the posts and, if I do, I'll post a link here.

A buddy I work with has a '96 CE LT4 w/ Bose System and we removed the OE head unit and replaced it with one of my adapters and aftermarket head unit. He has not experienced any lights illuminating. System works perfect.

84 non-bose radio replacement

I have an 84 with a non-boss radio. I have been looking for an updated replacement but there doesn't seem to be anything out there that will fit the dash without modifying the backing plate. I don't like the idea of cutting inside the dash area as there is not much to cut without affecting the structural integrity somewhat. Is there a replacement radio that will work with the current configuration of the 84??? Looking for suggestions.:bash:cry

For late C4s, Zip Products offers two different kits that allow you to bolt a modern receiver into the C4 center stack. Both these kits include a wiring harness that bypasses the tuner in a manner that prevents the aftermarket system from causing the CCM to set fault codes and flash "SYS" in the IP display.

Also, Zip Products' how-to article site has a step by step photo story on how to install one of these kits.

See the Zip Products web site and their technical article site

Non Bose Radio Replacement

Thank you for the information. However, as stated in my post, I have an 84 Corvette and this information is specific for a 90 or newer. Still looking for a replacement radio to fit the hole in the dash on my 84 Vette.

No resistor issues with '84. The issue I had, before dumping all the Blows crap, was matching the new head unit to the built-in amps. I use Crutchfield for plenty of reference, for fit and for purchases in gratitude for their good support. Tis not difficlut to fit a DIN-single and ahve it lok great with an adapter plate; doubles are too large. I think the stock unit is DIN 1.5 or so.

No to hijack a thread, of course.:w
