The anti theft system in my 81 has been disconnected. (Possibly just for an aftermarket system which in now gone) I would like to test the original and possibly get it going again if it's working.
Sounds easy. But, the wiring in the doors has been removed. (Cut where it entered the door)
The power door locks have also been removed. I am going to put these back in but would like to order all of my wiring at once.
is it possible to test the system as it is? Or do I need to get the door locks and other wiring in first?
i do have access to switches that I can connect in place of the proper switches for testing.

and yes bubba has been at my car. (And a particularly stupid one)

As far as I know ALL the components must be in place for the alarm system.
the power door locks are one of the ways to are the alarm....
I think the other is,to lock it with a key on the drivers side door,
unlocking it with the key as also what silences the alarm and allows the vette to start.
disabling the starter was a feature, starting in '81.
I believe you can do a search and check some old threads and see if this is correct.

I have already checked this in both the owners and service manuals.
With power door locks it can only be armed by the power door locks. (without power door locks it can be done by locking the doors using the lock buttons)
The key will NOT arm the system.
System can be disarmed by unlocking either door. (or it it hasn't been activated by the ignition)
Since I am only missing the wiring for the switches in the doors and the power door locks I think I should be able to test it somehow, I'm just not sure how the system would be expecting to see things.

;shrug

After some study of the wiring diagrams and system operation I worked out how to test it.
tried it but couldn't get the system to arm. I tried a few different methods but still nothing.
checked the continuity of all wires, checked the grounds.
I decided to open the control module, noticed some minor burn marks around the chip and decided it not going to work.
at least I don't need to worry about replacing the wiring for it.:D
also checked the courtesy light timer and found its faulty too, (lamp had been out since i got the car) found which part is faulty, and fixed the timer module. Slightly more complicated than just buying a new one but 1/10th of the price.

i DIDNT NOTICE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE GRD THAT BRINGS THE ALARM IN. I FORGET WHAT PIN IT IS ON THE ECM,I THINK IT IS A BLUE WIRE. YOU FIRST HAVE TO HAVE THAT LEAD OPEN,THAT IS NO GRDS ON IT OR YOU CAN NEVER ARM THE SYSTEM. YOU MAY HAVE A BAD SWITCH OR RELAY AND YOU HAVE TO CLEAR THAT FIRST.

By ecm I'm guessing you mean the alarm module.
And I did check the blue wire it wasn't grounded.
But just wondering now if my courtesy lights being stuck on would have affected it.
I'll test it again this weekend to be sure.
