I have a 99 Vette and was told by the dealer that my BCM lost its programming and needs to be replaced. I asked them to reprogrammed it, but was told that the BCM can not be reprogramed or reset. Is this true?

Hi,
I have a question, did you purchase a new BMC and if so did you reprogram
the new unit? Also what part number did you purchase? Did it correct your
problem---What was the problem???

Thanks. Redcars ;shrug

The dealer did it for me. The new BCM fixed all my problems, the dealer are the only one who can reprogram the BCM. You can get a new BCM from GMDIRECT.com for a little over a $100.00 them take it to the dealer to be reprogram. A new BCM fron the deales is $350.00

Just a quick note. In checking C5 items on Ebay a few days ago I noticed a used BCM for sale @ $45.00 think it was from a 2000.

I would not buy a used one. WWW.gmdirect.com has them and its worth the peace of mine. Just contact gmdirect and tell them what year and they will e-mail you a price and a part number. It's what i did after the fact. Had I did this frist I could have saved alot of money.:cool

Thanks to both Robert 5168 and Too Tall for your help. I will do a little more checking
before acutually purchasing the BCM. I will email GM Direct for price and availibity.
By the way what part number did the dealer use? I was told today the BCM is a
(plug and play) unit??? I wonder if a tech II is is the only tester on the market to check this type of problem?? Anyone have information on this?
Tkanks, Redcars

As far as I know the Tech 2 is the only way to interface with the BCM, but it won't do you any good to go out and by one; you need the codes to go with it and GM guard them like a farmer with a virgin daughter. I use Auto Tap to do diagnostic on my car. Its alot cheaper than a Tech 2 and does the samething except program the BCM. I was trying to buy a Tech2 but it's not worth the money without the code to program the BCM. You're welcome and good luck

BCM MODual

I think I have a bad BCM modual in my 2003 Z-06 vette. I tried looking up the GMDIRECT.COM and only got a gm car dealership. Do you have more info on them and maybe a phone number.

I have a 1992 and I need to know how to take it out ? took mine to a GM dealer and got it back with a broken turn signal lever
I was told they only had the right side apart and I drive with hand controls and they messed them up so bad I couldn't close the door without taking the nob off

the dealer saysit's on the right side this is what the service manual says BCM - Mounts behind radio control head - Accessible under left dash - Remove lower dash panels below steering column & left console trim & side access plate .
sorry for the big red letters
I called the BBB
