I would do it if I were doing the actual work myself but since finding a compatible fluid for Dexron IV is proving to be difficult (I may have to use whatever factory uses).
Rear end diff. I'm hesistant to have anything done because this car is under warranty and because Corvette seems to be finicky to accepting modifications + see below further info.
I have 11,300 miles on the 2005 C-6 with 4 spd. auto so far and I'm keeping it factory stock. I don't take it to the track only street driven. I am probably not as hard on it as other owners.
My dealership told me to wait till 25,000 and then do the transmission fluid service. I told them I want the pan dropped, filter changed and have them show me condition of fluid for shavings as they said they would even give me samples if I wanted them for analysis.The dealership is willing to put in whatever fluid of my choosing as long as it meets specs. in both components. If correct GM Dexron IV is 25.00 per?? where Redline is $8.00 per quart and we are talking 12 quarts:ugh :W
I understand it is impossible to get all of that trans fluid out so it will be less than 12 quarts but whatever 12 quarts X refill capacity is going to be some $$$ fluids $$$.
REAR END DIFF:
I believe some people are having trouble with the rear end chattering and GM has two fixes for it:
1. Drain and change fluid (First visit only)
2. Replace ring & pinion gears (Second visit):W
Because of this I'm hesistant to have anything done since "if it ain't broke don't touch it" and it runs great no problems.
I HAVE TO DECIDE,AND FIND WHICH BRANDS OF FLUIDS THAT MEET THE FACTORY SPECS IF I SUPPLY THE FLUIDS. :confused :W )
I'm hesistant now to use any other brand of synthetic now other than factory because of mentioned rear end Problems.
Amsoil doesn't have an equivalent to Dextron III (h) which is now Dexron IV.
I did check with the place I buy Redline from as I have used their products before in another car with success and they tell me they don't show anything in their books that is compatible for the Dexron IV ATF.
So I may have dealership use the factory fill the Dexron IV ATF for transmission and perhaps I can use Amsoil or Redline for rear end diff. as it is just 2 quarts.
For Redline you don't have to add the friction modifiers as it is already in it.
Amsoil 75w/90 Severe gear fluid makes same claim but does offer an extra tube of friction modifier to buy if necessary.

From 1 to 3 which order would you rate as SUPERIOR to the Dexron IV and 75w/90 gear synthetic fluids that factory uses as I don't know who makes GM's fluids other than for engine oil which is Mobil One.
Funny when I read the manual it says service trans. at 40,000 and if there is no leak with rear end diff. or trans. not to service these two components. Life long fluids????
Are they using special fluids? I sure would love to know who makes GM's fluids for the rear end diff. and auto trans 4 spd.:confused

Thanks for the info I have talked to many different parts stores and I'm going to stick with the factory fill on the Dexron III (h) ATF and 75w/90 rear end diff. Messing with you a little though - nothing wrong with what GM recommends for lubricants, just some of the others are probably better.

Thanks I will check it out. Mine is a 2005 A-4 Corvette. So the 06 six speed automatics A-6 are having problems? I'm glad I decided to stick with the A-4.
On 2005 Corvette I see 2 recalls and 96 TSB's. If a particuliar model has more TSB's than another does that make the car any worse?MADinAK said:Here's the two recalls..... I agree I like to do the same if I can find any TSB's on my car but usually there isn't one.MADinAK said:Here's the two recalls.....
