Mobil One Synthetic fluids vs. Redline Synthetic fluids

I use Mobil1 engine and trans fluids... Nothing else.

Mobil ONe is easy to find and less in cost. I know I have seen Amsoil make claims that its products are much superior to Mobil One.:_rock

Why not use what the Corvette engineers recommend?

They don't make any suggestions on what to recommend for rear end differential just 75w/90 synthetic oil and I want to put the best synthetic oil there is. Amsoil seems to be the favorite and they meet the specs. for the rear end diff. I believe it is called 75w/90 Extreme
Automatic 4psd. trans calls for Dexron IV and Amsoil doesn't have anything compatible and I called my parts store that sell Redline products and they could not find anything in their books that met Dexron specs.:confused
I called up Redline and they say their D4 ATF meets the new Dexron IV specs. So I don't really know as far as the transmission goes what's really available other than What GM sells the Dexron IV for $25.00 a quart and fluid capacity on auto trans is 12.2 quarts now you know the most Redline will cost per quart is 7.00 to 8.00 per quart and is probably the superior product to GM's Dexron IV ATF.:W :ugh

If you use Redline add the GM additive for the positrac and make sure you choose the correct GL rating. I use Reline in my Dana rear end GL5 75/90 and change it every 20,000 miles. I use the Redline MTL for my ZF 6 speed manual every 12,000 miles. But I have a 96 LT4, Mobil 1 5/30 in the engine and change it every 4,000 and after 72,000 hard miles no problems. Just drive your Vette and and do have a shop drain ALL the ATF(12 qt's or so) every 20,000 miles not just change the filter and add three quarts, your auto will last a lot longer if you keep your Vette that long.Have fun.

I do plan to keep the 2005 Corvette as long as she can go. My other car is 18 years old with 207,400+ miles.
A GM Tech told me to use the GM fluids as the Corvette was engineered to last 300,000 miles using these fluids.
I know the advice you gave to me is excellent advice (extra insurance)
I would do it if I were doing the actual work myself but since finding a compatible fluid for Dexron IV is proving to be difficult (I may have to use whatever factory uses).

Rear end diff. I'm hesistant to have anything done because this car is under warranty and because Corvette seems to be finicky to accepting modifications + see below further info.

I have 11,300 miles on the 2005 C-6 with 4 spd. auto so far and I'm keeping it factory stock. I don't take it to the track only street driven. I am probably not as hard on it as other owners.

My dealership told me to wait till 25,000 and then do the transmission fluid service. I told them I want the pan dropped, filter changed and have them show me condition of fluid for shavings as they said they would even give me samples if I wanted them for analysis. The dealership is willing to put in whatever fluid of my choosing as long as it meets specs. in both components. If correct GM Dexron IV is 25.00 per?? where Redline is $8.00 per quart and we are talking 12 quarts:ugh :W
I understand it is impossible to get all of that trans fluid out so it will be less than 12 quarts but whatever 12 quarts X refill capacity is going to be some $$$ fluids $$$.

REAR END DIFF:
I believe some people are having trouble with the rear end chattering and GM has two fixes for it:
1. Drain and change fluid (First visit only)
2. Replace ring & pinion gears (Second visit):W
Because of this I'm hesistant to have anything done since "if it ain't broke don't touch it" and it runs great no problems.

I HAVE TO DECIDE,AND FIND WHICH BRANDS OF FLUIDS THAT MEET THE FACTORY SPECS IF I SUPPLY THE FLUIDS. :confused :W )
I'm hesistant now to use any other brand of synthetic now other than factory because of mentioned rear end Problems.
Amsoil doesn't have an equivalent to Dextron III (h) which is now Dexron IV.

I did check with the place I buy Redline from as I have used their products before in another car with success and they tell me they don't show anything in their books that is compatible for the Dexron IV ATF.

So I may have dealership use the factory fill the Dexron IV ATF for transmission and perhaps I can use Amsoil or Redline for rear end diff. as it is just 2 quarts.
For Redline you don't have to add the friction modifiers as it is already in it.
Amsoil 75w/90 Severe gear fluid makes same claim but does offer an extra tube of friction modifier to buy if necessary.

Redline vs. Amsoil vs. factory fluids Who is the best?
From 1 to 3 which order would you rate as SUPERIOR to the Dexron IV and 75w/90 gear synthetic fluids that factory uses as I don't know who makes GM's fluids other than for engine oil which is Mobil One.

Funny when I read the manual it says service trans. at 40,000 and if there is no leak with rear end diff. or trans. not to service these two components. Life long fluids????
Are they using special fluids? I sure would love to know who makes GM's fluids for the rear end diff. and auto trans 4 spd.:confused

The auto is good with GM fluid, but if you use Redline as I have for 6 years DO ADD the GM positrac additive, I tried without as I read what Redline said but when my Vette was cold and backing out of the garage I could hear a noise(chattering) from the rear end. I added the GM additive and it went away.My wifes WS6 LT1 TA has 165,000 miles with Redline in the rear and no problems. At 130,000 the auto needed to be overhauled and I was told as long as the fluid is red in color and does not smell burnt it is OK, but it is not that much to have a Chevy Dealer suck the fluid and drain the torque converter and put in new filter and fill (about $150.00), drive for 10 miles and check the fluid again as the valve body will fill up then and need a little more ATF.I have replic ZR1 Corvette wheels on the TA 11 inch rear with 315 tires and I have broken three trans rear mounts from street racing so as you can see we ream the TA. Love the Mobil 1 engine oil.Have fun with your Vette, we do. Louis at 55 I like it like a kid and do it like a man :-) Save the wave.

Thanks for the info I have talked to many different parts stores and I'm going to stick with the factory fill on the Dexron III (h) ATF and 75w/90 rear end diff. GM brand (whoever makes it?):confused oil as there are no compatibles as the Redline said see dealer.:cool
Redline fluids worked great for my 88 5.0 Mustang 5 spd.. manual and differential. You could feel the difference in shifting it was alot slicker and smoother.

If you just play hard with it just use GM and change it a little sooner than they say just to make sure. I can pull a valve cover off my LT4 and factory needle bearing rocker arms are still nice and clean and the head is still clean and no brown color just silver from the casting. Love that Mobil 1 and changing it every 4000 miles or so or when ever it starts to look a little brown in color. I know a lot of Vette owners say I am stupid for doing this but it makes me feel better and neither one of my LT engines smoke or leak.

I use the best latest spec GM approved oil - Penzoil Platinum.:upthumbs

Why not use what the Corvette engineers recommend?

Right - the same engineers that designed the roof, the electronics with the DBS, etc. With 26 TSBs and two recalls in progress I don't put much stake in anything GM says at this point.

Messing with you a little though - nothing wrong with what GM recommends for lubricants, just some of the others are probably better.

Lubricants for the rear end diff. and automatic transmission like Amsoil, Redline, or Mobil One????:confused

What are the 26 TSB's and two recalls in progress?:confused :W
I only know of the flying top recall:r

Damn - that wasn't easy to find again. Here's a link to the page that will have recalls and TSBs (as well as a bunch of other crap. I think you could spend days on their website and not see everything. You'll have to drill down a little by entering make, model, etc. I just ran the 06 vette again and it came up with 26 TSBs. I remember seeing something last night about a tranmission exchange program or something like that. Might have been the whiskey.....nah.

:beer Thanks I will check it out. Mine is a 2005 A-4 Corvette. So the 06 six speed automatics A-6 are having problems? I'm glad I decided to stick with the A-4.:_rock

Here's the two recalls..... Once you are at the site you can retrieve the documents and read what actually is involved. I always like to know what TSBs are involved with my vehicles before I take them to the dealer for any work. I'll mention that I'm having a problem with the rear end or whatever it says in the TSB and sure enough without fail the dealer ends of replacing that part whether I'm actually having that problem or not. I figure it's better to get it fixed sooner than later.

On 2005 Corvette I see 2 recalls and 96 TSB's. If a particuliar model has more TSB's than another does that make the car any worse?:_rock

I agree I like to do the same if I can find any TSB's on my car but usually there isn't one.

Me too keeping it factory stock will ensure you won't have the problems some of the people have by messing everything up.:_rock
