corvette hoods

guys i have a general question about corvette hoods,

guys, from 68-72, did they follow the same hood scheme? (normal flat-like hood for the base 350, and different lump sizes on the LT1, 427, 454)

so if a vette had that V shaped lump that was in the middle with 2 intake things, (instead of the very minute lump that ran straight down the hood) it meant that vette wasnt a base 350 when it was built?

Yes,the standard small block hood has the small bulge that runs the length of the hood whereas the LT-1 and the big blocks got the taller hood with the chrome accents(you called them intakes).I'm sure some of the more computer savvy members will post pictures of each for you.

Don't forget the rare L-88 and their unique hoods. Of course, the hoods themselves aren't really that hard to find, except the ones with the functional cowl air box.

oh, thanks guys, well you know its funny, because ive noticed a lot of people here dont even bother if its an LT1 or not, they just say, 70 vette, etc, 350, , until i notice the different hoods on some, meaning having an LT1 or base 350 doesnt really affect the value here, lol, i guess people are far more concerned on condition because yes, its very hard to buy parts or have a classic fixed in the philippines

A lot of those with the LT1/BB hood are nothing more than hood swaps. Somewhere in the history an owner liked the look of the LT1/BB hood so they just made a simple switch.

See my avatar (thanks Shooter) to see what an LT-1 hood looks like. LT-1's had the big block hood to accomodate the air intake manifold.
The normal 350's came out of the factory with more of a flat hood.

There are only three factory hoods for the 68-72 cars: the regular smallblock hood, the big block/LT-1 type, and the L-88 hood.

The LT1 and the base engine were both 350 cid Chevy small block engines. Appearance wise they were pretty much the same although the LT1 had an aluminum intake manifold and a Holly carb (the base had a Rochester Quadrajet). Both can be easily changed. The LT1 had a 6500 rpm red line, the base was 5600.

There are other ways to tell a genuine LT1 (unfortunately many of them can be changed) and I'm sure someone more knowledgable will chime in.
