win aldl data log

If anyone has the time I could use a hand deciphering the values on the WIN aldl data log I made on my 86 coupe , that has a terrible bog, misfire, hesitation when it's warmed up and you try to floor it. No codes are thrown. This problem just started, as I took my vet out of hibernation just last week. I had a backfire when I try to hit the NOS last week. I was getting a code 33 and 34, and a code 14. I changed the coolant sensor for the ecm, and the connector, and purchased a rebuilt bosch maf sensor. All the codes have gone away, car starts and idles fine, and she'll pull good SOMETIME when you slowly press gas, but when you hammer it she just about bogs out and dies, and you have to let off the gas. I am going to do a compression test next weekend. I have the WINaldl data loge saved, but trying to read it is driving me nuts. I have been researching it, but progress is slow. Thanks.
 
Does it run warm at all? Does it bog as soon as you hit the throttle or does it have to build some rpm first? One of the possibilities is a restricted exhaust , often the cat.If you rev it to about 2000 rpm and hold the throttle in the same position the rpms will start dropping after a very short time if the cat is plugged. Also a vacuum gauge on manifold vacuum port will begin to drop. Just someplace to start.

Are you referring to the "log" as the data logger produced in Jonas Bylund's WinALDL software? If so, seach the internet for ALDLView by C. Pennock. It is a nice utility that graphs the "log" produced in WinALDL (i.e. sensor data) based on your selection.

Some easy items to check out...
How is the the fuel pressure holding up under these conditions?
Have you measured the resistance across each fuel injector?

Poor hard acceleration

When the engine coughed upon NOS, it may have blown off a vacuum hose. I had this happen when feeding Seefoam too fast???? Felt really humble when the garage showed me the hose off.
Symptoms were similar to yours.

thanks for the reply. the exhaust is true duals with no cats. no place to get clogged. the car runs fine, warm or cold, you just can't hammer it. although it defiantly bogs down and sputters worse the warmer it is. I have a feeling, even though it's not throwing any codes, the rebuilt MAF sensor isn't cutting it.
 
Out of Storage

So how long was the car sitting in storage? Have you added fresh gas to it yet? If not what you might have is a tank of gas that has gone bad. Or did you fill the tank on the way home from storage? Same thing bad gas or gas with water in it from the gas station.

It is surprising how many times poor quality gas gets to the public. I have had cars and motorcycles that would not hardly run. Or they would cruise just fine on the I Slab but all of a sudden you look down and a half tank of gas is gone in a very short distance.;shrug

GMJunkie's comment reminds me I have also had Mickey Mouse and his family build nests in the air cleaner.
 
thanks to all for there responses. after deciphering the data log, ( extensive internet research involved) everything was up to snuff on the car. I filled up the gas tank, ( it was at 1/2) and SHAZZAM the problem dissapeared. I went after the fuel pump and found it was mounted on an angle and was sucking air with anything around a 1/2 tank of gas or less. Who ever worked on the pump last must have bent the assembly. I was both delighted and embarrased at not thinking of this from the start. The fuel pressure was fine when tested while car was not moving. As soon as you hammered it and the car lunged forward...BANG...no gas at pump and as a result a major stumble. Hope this incident helps others so they don't make the same dumb mistake as me. Always try the easy things first when troubleshooting the vet. It may save you a lot of time and aggravation. Well thanks again boys, I'm going to go out and put my car through a beatin, the way they were meant to be driven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Don't feel badly! I have seen this type of solution many, many times over the past thirty-seven years working in the repair industry!

I do not troubleshoot ANY vehicle without first checking the battery cable ends and the battery. You would really be surprised to know how many electrical/driveability issues go away once this area is checked and repaired!

Me Two

Now I remember the time I spent 6 months trying to find out what was causing a 1960 Corvair to run good and then not. It was my brother in laws car and what I didn't know was it ran bad at half a tank. Finally found that the pick up screen on the fuel pump was glogged and it could only pick up the top half of the tank. I sure am happy you found it in less than six months.:boogie
