Clear Plastic chip protects

Has anyone used the stick on clear plastic chip protectors that go on behind and in front of the wheels? They even have them to go on the rear view mirrors.
Do they work and stay on?
If not what do you do for splash protectors, anything?

I have heard good thing about that stuff. You can get it applied to the entire front of the car too if you like. I do not have it on my car, but I know there are several members on here that have had it installed on theirs and I have not heard anything bad.

I was thinking about those as well. It takes a little more than 1/2 mile of gravel road to get to my house and I'm already seeing a slight dullness where the sand hits the front fenders and rear quarters. I'm keeping the house and keeping the car so I have to find a solution.

just did 3-M Paint Protection on my 2008 Pace Car on Monday - applied nose; bumper; mirrors; rocker panels; wheel kickups front and rear - will let you know how it reacts in a couple of days or so

For side body paint protection, try the new "splash guards" from your smiling local Chevrolet dealership. GM part # 19170234.

Also, there are pre-cut clear pieces for the side of your C6. They are available here: www.mamotorworks.com/corvette and search part # 618-807. ( 638-710 for Z06.)

They also make them for C3,C4 & C5.

I've had this on my '08 JSB for about a month now. I have the same coverage as yours but also 1/3 way up the hood and in the door access areas. Mine have the three year material warranty and it extended by the body shop to a written lifetime warranty.

I think it is great.

The Mid American Motor works stuff is a eight piece kit which protects behind the front and rear wheels as well as the lower rocker panel in front of the rear wheel for 65$ but its a product called CLEARTASTIC which is not a 3M product as far as I can tell. The 3m product I believe is installed by a body shop this stuff is stick on yourself. Sounds too good to be true and you know what that means.
How much was the 3m product?

The 3M was $900. I have a lot more coverage than the kit that is described here. Still $900 is a lot. After dealing with the rock chips on my '02 vert I decided that if I got a new car I would protect it so I had the 3M put on right after I had the windows tinted. I've heard people say that you can get the front bumper, hood and rocker panles repainted for less than $900 but I have found that is simply not the case - especially with a tint coat like JSB.

I have been very satisfied with the 3M.

Thanks, I am still looking for a dealer that install's it in Oklahoma to get a estimate.
I like the new black GM splash guards also although my dealer is having a problem getting a set. Don't like the idea of drilling holes in the body behind the rear wheels so may not go that route.
Its raining so much I am not driving the car so have some time to decide.
Dam the rain, I want to drive!!!!!!

check with local tint installers - most of them also do 3-M Paint Protection or something similar - installer that did mine worked for local Chebby dealer for years and then went off on his own about 10 years ago doing tint installations and detailing work - picked up 3-M installation couple of years ago - he uses the following link to order from

Thanks good info. My go with the hard plastic splash guards and the film nothing work with too much protection . Have to see how the hard plastic GM ones look on a car, have not see a picture of them installed yet.

One thing I really liked about my installer was that they were 3M trained and certified. They have a special machine and they cut their own patterns instead of using the precut pattern for vettes. The precut did not give all of the coverage that I wanted.

Dealer just called and he has the new splash guard in, I will post some pic's of what they look like tomorrow if I get them installed tonight

are these guards that you have to do some drilling???? prefer not doing any drilling to install anything on a new car
