Does anyone know if the tapped holes in the air intake plenum can be repaired using heilcoils ? The thread cavities in the plenum appear to be large enough, but I am not sure.

Plenums are still fairly inexpensive these days.

So, if you want to save yourself the time and effort for tapping and threading... I found one on ebay. FWIW- They sell for about $39.

working on old american motorcycles gave me a lot of experience with heli-coils..
the unit when installed properly is stronger than the original threads....
i have never seen one fail..
 
I have found that helicoils and aluminum dont mix well. I much prefer to use time-serts. They are threaded insets not just a flimsy spring like a heli coil.
