I flew more than I care to remember "DUST-OFF" missions in the old work horse "The Huey" just had to drop smoke and we would be there :thumb The Huey's saved countless lifes and it will always have a special place in my memories of another world ago :pat Spent many hours on the M-60 "The Saw" or as some referred to it as "The Pig" but they would mow down the brush and the trees :BOW and made me feel a lot better being behind it instead of in front of it :r Also had some ships with the min-gun, nothing but awesome; a steady steam of fire!

I flew most of my career as a Dustoff Pilot! I flew guns for a short time in "M" models and a very short time in "S" model Cobras. I hope you were a crewing a HUEY and not a patient.

I was a Crew Chief on the UH1-D and E's mostly; started our with AB took jump training @ Fort Campbell and got into helicopters later; spent some time @ Redstone Arcenal in Bama leaning about the mini-guns. I did the extra stuff for the extra bucks, got to the point where I couldn't keep jump status and flight status at the same time just not enough hours in a day! Never quite liked the jumping out of a perfectly good airplane thingy :L I assume you took your training @ Rucker? I started out in fixed wing then got into the choppers, liked the Huey's a lot. I went in the Army in 1965 got out offically in 1971. A life time ago now but something you'll never forget that's for sure!

Yes Ft Rucker, Was in VIetnam in '71 and retired in 2001. The HUEY will be the DC 3 of rotor wing aviation!

ABsolutely!

There is a group of pilots and crew chiefs that are in the process of restoring one in Peru, Indiana and I may join them, going to get information and maybe go over that way here in a couple of weeks to meet with some of them. It's a gunship and flew many missions in VN, I wouldn't mind doing somthing like this if it works out; I hope I haven't forgotten how to work on them :L esspecially in a country that's not shooting at you;shrug

Actually, that's one of the few things I miss since I retired. I've got over 200 static line and free-fall jumps. Jumping never failed to get my heart pumping and my blood flowing. Nowadays, every time I see a C-17 or -130, I die a little inside.

This is for sure about the heart pumping but to say I miss it would be a lie. It was exciting and had some elements I liked but to say I like it would be a lie also. I'm glad I did it, went through the training and etc. but I have to say I like flying on helicopters more :thumb But to add it to the list of my favorite things I've done would be no where near the top :ohnoes Not sure I would change anything I've done or the order I've done them in either; well wait a minute I have a marriage/divorce in the mix that I wouldn't mind a retake on ;LOL
