Is my problem unique or the description unclear??

The lights to the right of the steering column (or the console - radio, HVAC, etc) do not work - instrument lights at the steering column (speed, tach, gauges) do work with the headlights switch AND only with the headlights switch - not when the power is on. So where do I start??

CD player does not work - radio does - read that a part of the theft deferment system the cd will require a code to be entered if the battery is disconnected - a new battery was installed when I bought the car a month ago. So anyone know something about this - can't find anything in the owners...
