I have a '96 LT4 and have been having cruise control issues. When on the interstate the car will not maintain speed on a good level grade. I can set it for say, 75 mph. It will hold for a little while and then slowly start slowing down. It is still engaged because when I tap the clutch or...
I recently replaced the 6 speed transmission in my '96 LT4 with a new one. The old transmission needs 2nd gear synchros but they aren't completely gone. Transmission shifts fine under normal driving conditions. Original transmission has less than 58K on it. Anyone interested? I'd like to...
Found Problem
I ended up changing the O2 sensor with reluctance. Turns out that it was a bad sensor after all. I haven't had the code since I changed it out.
I have a ZF S6-40 transmission out of my '96 LT4 that I am trying to sell. It has less than 58,000 miles on it. The 2nd gear synchros are worn but functional. I drove the car from Mississippi to the Grand Canyon and back with absolutely zero problems in 2010. I was going to get the...
Disengaging Worm Gear
Roger, I have learned so much from this site from guys like you. Sometimes, I learn after the fact! When I was replacing the bushings in the headlight drive assembly I ran into the same problem of getting the big nylon gear out of the case. The first one I did, I...
Delrin
Not too sure about the compressibility of delrin and nylon. The delrin only lasted 16 years in my case (1996 model). As far as deforming under pressure, there isn't a large amount of force required to roll the headlights. When the motion stops, there shouldn't be any force on the...
Just had to do my headlights too!
I have a 96 LT4 and noticed recently that the passenger headlight motor would continue to run for a few seconds after the headlights were turned off. Found great information on this site including where to get the plugs to replace the ones that turned to dust...
My engine has been throwing this code since I put it back in the car. I got the same code about 2 years ago and replaced the O2 sensor. Never got the code again until now. When I first cranked the engine after having it out of the car there was quite a bit of smoke. This came from oil making...
Done and Over With!
The distributor looked fine except for the missing screws in the rotor! I cleaned everything up and reassembled. Used blue loctite on the screws. Everything went back fine. Fired her off and she cranked right up. Back in business.... now to fix the other nit-picky items!
Found Problem
Man you hit that one out of the park and didn't know it!!! I finally rolled my sleeves up last night and pulled the distributor. I didn't have the special E4 female torx bit so I had to wait until today. Napa Auto Parts had one so I gave them my $4 and went my merry way. I...
LT4 Still Won't Crank!
Well, I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and drain the coolant, remove the water pump, and finally the distributor. I put a timing light on the coil wire and the coil seems to be working fine. When I crank the engine over I get steady pulses. I put it on the...
