GM's V8 Production Down by Half - Should Next Gen Corvette Adopt a V6 to Keep Up with the Times?

No way. What's next a hybrid vette. I think not. V8 all the way

    I know it is a 1979 but...

I will look into the crate motors, the LM1 and 290 hp versions, seem like a great deal. However, I would like to have the original motor rebuilt. johnz, I will mention the felpro gaskets to my rebuilder.

    I know it is a 1979 but...

It looks like I'm in for a total rebuild on my L48. It is the original engine and the lifters are worn out and the value guides are worn as well. The most cost effective way is to rebuild the whole engine. But in doing so I imagine the block will have to deck to square everything off, resulting...

    L82 cam in a stock L48

Jack Thanks. If the bottom end needs attention I would end up doing a complete rebuild. I had the main seal done last year to determine if I was just leaking oil or burning oil. So far the verdict seems to be I was leaking oil. I will pull the plugs and do another compression check before...

    L82 cam in a stock L48

Tom, Thanks, that was a lot of information. I will give the #12353917 a serious look. It seems to match my driving needs. I am planning on installing a dual exhaust without cats. I would like to install shorty headers. Will either of these help with the lack of lower end torque because of...

    L82 cam in a stock L48

motorman, thanks. I guess I would be better off with the 300hp cam. Right? What is the stall speed on my engine. Am I right to assume that by lazy on take off, the car will feel like it is bogging down.

    L82 cam in a stock L48

Thanks, Mike for the reply. I'm mainly using the vette as a cruser and I don't think I will be revving the motor past 5500.

    L82 cam in a stock L48

I have not posted here in a long time. Usually, everything I need is in the archives. I have a 1979 Corvette with a L48 engine, auto, 3.55 gears. The compression checks out at 150 in all cylinders. I'm getting a lot of lifter noise at about 3000 to 3500 rpm. I bought the L82 350hp...

    K&N air filter

I have one and I've noticed better throttle response. A seat of the pants feel, makes me think that there was an small increase in HP.

Another Fun fact for '79 L-48 Owners

I have reprints of Car & Driver and Road and Track car test articles. I bought them from the NCRS bookstore. I not sure if you have to be a member to order but I know I got a discount because I was. You can search them on line at this link...

Another Fun fact for '79 L-48 Owners

Car&Driver tested a Duntov turbo in Nov 80. There was a production run of 201 with Zora getting the first one. The price as tested in 80 was $37,500. It was outsourced to a company in Ohio called American Custom Industries.

Another Fun fact for '79 L-48 Owners

I'll check on the turbo Vettes when I get home. But I remember a Vette called the Duntov turbo. It never made to production but R&T or C&D tested a factory mule in 79 or 80. I'll provide specs later.
