This is a great post...lots of info about a really poorly performing C3 AC system. I am interested to know your thoughts about the r134-a that has "additives" to help cool better, some claim 18%. Also, the cans are of numerous capacities. I am assuming my 1977 reair manual states 3 pounds of...
On my '77 the low blower is always on...something to do with the ventilation. You can trace the wire at the blower resistor (under the hood on the heater box) and disconnect the brown wire i(n my case) and it no longer blows all the time.
I bought a lower left hand dash pad with the speedo and tach at a swap meet. The tach is mechanical. Any one know how to tell the year model? I can find no obvious part numbers. The speedo is a 160 mph. What was the last year for mechanical tachs?

I found this on Eckler's. I replaced my '77 fan with this setup and got maybe 20% more air. You can actually feel it blowing from the center vent while seated.
Good luck.

Coundn't reach the plug without pulling the console & removing the guage cluster. Pulled it and the plug was not snapped in place on the top. I cleaned the terminals and made sure it was plugged in securely and the gen light is out and the volt meter reads nornal. My Bad, got sloppy.
