I didn't know about the EPA information but it does make sense to me. I did much research on coolants a number of years ago and decided to give the HC12a a try. I have had it in three vehicles for a number of years, including my 86 Vette, and can say that it is a very good coolant that works...
HC12a is a propane butane based coolant. It is manufactured in Canada by Duracool Duracool®.com 2004 - Duracool® is The Recognized Leader In Hydrocarbon Refrigerant Technology and in the US by a company called HC Refrigerants HC Refrigerant. I'm sure that there are others as well.
The...
If you change to 134a you must also change the accumulator. Otherwise the bags containing the moisture absorbant will burst and cause damage to your compressor. I speak from personal experience with an old Caddy. I have been using HC12a in my system for the last 3 years and it has been...
Hi Craig
I looked at a different GM manual and found where the thermo sensor for the cold start valve ( 9th injector) is located. It is in front of and slightly above the right valve cover. It must be tucked in underneath and behind the AC compressor. This would explain why I was unable to...
Thank you for your assistance. I appreciate the time and effort that you have spent. I plan to have a go at it next week and will see what I get myself into. I like to plan for the worst and hope for the best.
Thanks again
Bill
Thanks again for replying. I have a GM Corvette shop manual for an 86 Vette. I found the injector valve that you are referring to. The space is very tight for fingers and the manual doesn't exactly say how the valve is supposed to be removed. I am not an experienced mechanic, just a home...
Thank you for your input. Any light that you can shed would be quite helpful. My manual seems to indicate that the cold start switch works from the coolant temperature. It has a purple and tan wire coming out of it. Needless to say I can't find it.
Thanks again.
Thank you for your response and input.
From my Vette manual the cold start system consists of two components, the cold start valve which is the 9th injector that you mentioned, and a switch that allows it to activate. The switch, when the temperature is below 35 degrees C, grounds the injector...
My 86 Vette won't start in the conventional (hands off the throttle and just turn the key) when it is cold. It will start quite easily if I blip the throttle and runs well thereafter. I think that the problem may be the cold start switch or cold start valve or both. My question is in two parts...
Thanks for taking the time to reply Glenn. I looked about in that general vicinity yesterday but couldn't see anything because everything is so crowded with the distributor and wires and such. I'll have another look tomorrow. Thanks again.

Hi everyone. The oil pressure on my dash gauge reads lower than normal. At idle the gauge reading drops to zero. I am hoping that it is just a faulty oil pressure switch rather than a faulty oil pump. I bought a new switch but cannot find the location of the old swith on the engine so that I...
Wheel spacers
I have half inch spacers on the rear wheels of my 86 Vette fitted with '88' wheels. I picked up the information about required spacing on this site a long time ago and the spacers that I installed have worked very well for me. The 88 wheels have a different offset than the 86's...
Can you include me into the information loop. My 86 Corvette has the same problem. There is a local carb shop that instals brass bushings but I can see that the same problem will redevelop as the bushings will wear just as the original material on the throttle body. Bearings are a much better...
Hi Dave
I have a set of 88 rims on my 86. The use of spacers is for more than filling out the wheel wells. Before I put the spacers on I found that a large dip in the road would cause the rear wheels to go up into the wheel well and hit and rub on the inside. The spacer moved the wheel out a...
