I'm thinking I could use a prom for a 81 stock with 4 speed. I have converted this from an automatic, and have been told that the Prom needs to be changed due to the tranny swap. I have a hypertec, but would rather have a stock if I can get one.
Reference ECM: does anyone know if I got a rebuilt...
synthetic?
any oil that has a petroleum base is not a true synthetic, imho. I've been sold on a few different brands over the last 40 years and would continue using one of them if Amzoil were not available. The increased viscosity, protection, heat protection, failure rate, and long life sold...

Does anyone know if there is a source for a new 327 longblock. If I can find one at a decent price, I'm now toying with the idea of going non-emissions set-up with 300 HP and using a after market fuel injection such as MassFlow, or Eldebrocks efi. I had the 327-300 in both a '68 and a '64 and...
another possibility
I had to push my vette out of the road :madtwice before I found the problem, that just might be yours also. there is a 3 wire connection under the distributor. one of the 3 wires is a male connection into the female which can, by engine torque movement, gravity, etc...fall...
caution on turning the crank
I'v read that you don't want to turn the Vette's Crank. I believe the reason was that the journal surfaces were specially treated or hardened, and you would lose that . I believe I read that here in the Technical section on rebuilding a block. you might want to...
Holly rebuilts, Tpi, etc
Man, appreciate the good come-back. I remember reading something Lars wrote about the rebuilt Q-Jets ..Holly, Eldebrock, auto store brands not being very good, but Jet had pretty good rebuilds. I respect his opinion. The locals that claim to be able to rebuild is...
Just considering many different options. Is Rochester out of business? I know that Eldebrock(?) did make a similar carb (1901?) but the Quadrajet folks made them stop. If QJ no longer mfgs, what s the problem w/letting someone else give it a go? One option I'm considering is going to...
thanks DarkShark, Craig
Appreciate yo' good comebacks! regarding the OD, yea, I'm planning on either adding GearVendors Od or having Auto Gear to re-gear my Muncie so the 4th will be an OD ratio (less expensive...i think) I'd really think I should get in the 25-30 MPG with my 2:87 rear, OD...
I 'm thinking about converting to a 1995-'96 LT1 primarily for better gas mileage. While my engine (original) still runs ok, I'm tired of hoping for better gas mileage with the non-replaceable Quadrajet (15 to 17 mpg) that you cannot adjust because of its umbilical cord to the computer! If I...
I have tried to ascertain which rear end I have on my '81 without success.
The numbers I'v found tells me nothing. they are "62580" and below that is "039534" . Since I bought this car used", the differential could possibly be anything from a 1980 to 1982...right? Because of some speedometer...
just got back from a 500 mile road trip to Helen, Ga, with my son (who is out on spring break for the College of Charleston) . I did work the curves in those mountains and ran 80+ mostly on I85, but the coolant stayed steady at the 160 mark. However, the engine oil temp. predictably, ran 180 -...

kunneman
since I put together that list, there are other considerations for the 81 when switching from the auto to the four speed.
the ECM prom is different. You can get the PROM for the manual application from Standard Blue Streak (~~$80) or get the Hypertech chip.($140) The Needed Prom No...
