    Check your timing. Advancing the timing will often make the engine run hotter.

    I have never had to do any touchup. Just take your time, wrap the wool around the tip of your index finger, and go slowly. If I did cut into the paint on the sides of a bezel, I think I'd probably feather it out and touch up.

    What work did you have done to the car? There are modifications that will make it run hotter. Are the belts tight? Is the fan working properly? If the car's running hotter due to the modifications, I'd first try using a "water wetter" such as Red Line, and then try a 160 degree thermostat.

    I just do the tops of the bezels by running my finger around them. If you go all the way down to the surface of the cluster, you get too much glare off of the chrome.     just brush the letters lightly with medium steel wool and they'll come out perfect. Use steel wool to clean and polish the bezel rings and the chrome trim also. NEVER use scotch brite or other abrasives on chrome.
