creaking noise I had a creaking noise from rear of car. Turned out was failed rear wheel bearing. Easy enough to check: jack up, grab top and bottom of tire and push/pull towards/away from you. If you have a lot of play it is the bearing. This is replaced as an assembly usually.

Yes it is the driver side lower dash panel that is carpeted. I figured out why it would not come off. There were 2 torx head screws buried under the carpet cover on the side of the panel. I have not been able to determine how I can work in the space available.
