There is a very interesting 1956 Corvette (Lot 343) going across the block at the Kruse Auctions event in Auburn IN this Friday and Saturday. It is Aztec Copper with beige cove and interior. The engine is stated to be one of 111 with RPO469 2x4bbl (225hp) with RPO449 Special Camshaft boosting power to 240hp and 3 speed manual transmission. The block should be stamped "GU". I will be checking that and other details on Friday. Pictures show an aftermarket smaller diameter steering wheel.

Well, I looked at the stamp pad. It is stamped GU but the pad is in rough condition. It's hard to say what sort of abuse that block has seen over the last 70 years, I couldn't see the casting number and date. It appears to me like the deck has been roughly cleaned at some time and the stamping is shallow, even worn looking, like it is under the damage. I'd love to see this block with the right head off. The GU is easier to see with the eye than it is in the photo. Overall, it is a very nice car. It sold for $134,400.
