I will check the timing, but do you think it will wander due to how long it has been parked? Thanks for the help steve

Another hard starter with a gas smell

I have a 68 427/400, and have a problem with starting and a gas smell also. It starts easily (fires in about 1 second) when the car sits overnight, but it is slow starting when I restart after driving for a while. If I restart right away, like stopping for gas, it fires right up. If I let it set...

I have a 1966 Ford Fairlane GT. Mustangs are its main source of fiber.

Thanks Duke, that is a great site. I will print the article and add it to the car's scrapbook. Steve

    Oil leak

The oil thing is something someone told me about once. Just smear some oil on your finger and rub it in the top and bottom. I'm not sure if it does any good or not, but it has been something I have done ever since. It (the oil pan) is a pain, but hard to do wrong. It will be fine, I guarntee it...

    Oil leak

Black rubber is all I can say. A little oil around the top and bottom, and cinch it up.

    Performance

I am looking for a site that will give me original road tests and performance specifications for a 68/427/400. I have seen production numbers, etc., but I would like to see what was said about them in their day. Thanks Steve

    US COrvettes

I bought a 68/427 a few months ago from Kasabian Motors in northern California, and I am very happy with the deal and the car. It is exactly as advertised. I would recommmend them. The owners father was the old drag racer that was called Gas Rhonda...if you go back a ways. Not that it matters...

    Oil leak

The pan I bought came with the gasket. I didn't use any silicone. Maybe a difference between the 68 and 79?????

Yes, that is in the done column. Had a little trouble getting it off, but finally managed.

    Paint Job

I have a 68/427 that could use a little body work (stress cracks) and a decent paint job. The car is Corvette Bronze, and I will repaint it the same original color. I don't want the most incredible paint job ever, but I don't want Earl Scheib either. Anyone have a guess at the price range of a...

Clutch type and size for the 68 ??

I am looking forward to the answers you get Jim because replacing the clutch is on my iist of things to do this summer. I want to put in something that I don't need to worry about doing again in 4 or 5 years. Keep up the good questions. Steve

Need a dimension from another 68..

I too have a 68/400 without the tilt wheel. My legs have just a little room under it, and it is closer to my chest than I perfer, but I wouldn't have any other car. Steve

    Wax

Facts, legitimate testing sources, personal experiences....hogwash. Don't confuse me with facts (do I sound like a democrat?) and statistics. Turtle wax is the best.

    Newbie Waxer Wants Help

Use Turtle Wax. You can't beat the quality, ease of use, results and price. Spend your money and time somewhere else, not on overpriced waxes.

    Wax

This may rattle some of you youngsters, but I believe the best wax on the market is Turtle Wax. I have been using it for aroung 40 years without any problems. It goes on and comes off easy, shines brite, doesn't eat the paint, and shines great. I use it on all three of my cars: an 04...
