    Frankford Plating

I never left, I have just become more of a lurker these days. I just don't need to get drawn into a bunch of pi**ing contests!:L I just was so hot over this that I felt compelled to comment! Regards, John McGraw

    Frankford Plating

Guys, Most of you who know me, know that I am not in the habit of bashing vendors. I am always willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt. That being said, I want to share my experience with Frankford Plating over the last 8 1/2 months. I started this saga in June, when I called Jon to...

    C1 Seat divider trim installation???

Herb, The door trim installs with the screws clips being installed in the clips first, and then the clips being installed into the trim by turning the clip with the screw. You will notice that the clips will only trun a little over 1/4 turn before locking into the trim. The remaining clips...

C1 & Flaming River steering column

When I looked at the FR column for a C1, I found the IDIDIT column to be a better looking column. The tilt FR column for a C2 is king, but I like the IDIDIT column better on C1. Regards, John McGraw

1960 armrests - how to install

Yep, call Mary Jo back and order the mounting bolts. The are 1/4-20 phillips screws, but are a fillister head screw, so it is not likely that you will find a head that will fit locally. A standard head screw will not fit in the recess in the armrests. Regards, John McGraw

    C1 windshield QUESTIONS????

Herb, You have to use the gasket. The bottom of the channel is round, and the gasket is shaped to fit it. The other side of the gasket is flat to match the body. You want to put dum-dum sealer around all the mounting holes, so that when the gasket is installed, it will seal the holes. The...

    57 restomod

Herb, You are kind to say so, but my problem is that I am too much of a perfectionist. Most people really don't want to pay for this type of work, but I can't do it any other way. The end result, is that I end up with way more hours in a job than I can charge for, so my effective labor rate...

    57 restomod

Shine, Glad to hear you are about ready to get the 62 gone. I know that you will be glad to finally see it gone. I am probably going to put the 59 up for sale pretty soon, as the medical costs for the last couple of months hit me pretty hard, even with insurance. My company also sold out, and...

    57 restomod

Hey Shine, Long time, no see! The 57 is looking good. How much longer until you get the body back on the chassis? I have been down sick for a few months, but am finally getting back to work on the 65. I will send you some pics, when I get a chance. Regards, John McGraw

    67 headlight problem

I do not know of a kit, per se, but most of the vendors carry the individual parts for the headlight motors. The gear is pretty much a drop-in installation, but maybe someone will post a link to the procedure. Regards, John McGraw

    67 headlight problem

Drive gear is worn out, it is time for a rebuild of those motors! It is really a pretty simple job to rebuild them. There is nothing that would cause one motor to reverse and not the other. Both motors are driven by the same circut. The switches and indicator lights are nothing but advisory...

    C1 windshield frame question...

Mac, Probably not. The windshield on a C1 just sits on top of fiberglass. and the structure underneath at the door pillars are not noted for rusting like on later Corvettes. The windshield pretty much just bolts to the body on a C1! The windshield is a fairly pricey item an a C1, and he should...

    I am not a watchmaker!

While the clock is physically the same as the passenger car clock, there are some differences. The most noticable one is the fast/slow adjustment and indication on the clock face are reversed. Nobody has ever explained why they would build two different movements with different directions of...

    I am not a watchmaker!

If the car is not going to ever be judged, then the quartz clock is a good alternative. The mechanical clocks are not the most reliable thing on earth, but a quartz clock will cost points at judging. Most of the conversions, are just that, they put a quartz conversion in your case. You still...

    I am not a watchmaker!

There is a spring washer under the clock, just press in on the clock and rotate it, and it will come right out. A watch or clock repair shop will have absolutely no idea how to repair one of these clocks! The problem, in almost cases, is the contacts that fire the solenoid that winds the...

    59 stainless exhaust

Jose, These are Stainless Works 24" smooth rounds, and the pipes are custom mandrel bent by them. If you are talking about one of their replacement systems with original style off-road mufflers (round ones), then they are entirely different mufflers. They are quieter than these mufflers, but...

    59 stainless exhaust

Jose, I use the smooth rounds on my 59, and they are a little on the loud side. They are fairly quiet if you foot is not buried in the throttle, but really stand on it, and they make some noise! I am having them build me some chambered turbo mufflers for my current project in an effort to...

    Got my cluster finished tonight

Craig, The Flaming river column is very nice. I am very pleased with it. I am using a C4 rack and pinion. I have never used one of their R&P units, but the streetrod guys really like them. Regards, John McGraw

C1 gas tank - anything go under it?

Herb, The factory used a couple of tar paper strips under it to minimize the squeaking noise of the movement between the steel tank and the fiberglass. A couple of strips about 2-3" wide, running fore and aft, about under the straps, will do it. You really need to to use the thicker grade of...

    [News] Reinventing the Corvette

Rob, Billy is one of the good guys! He builds a real nice product, and is always willing to help a guy out, even if he is not using one of his frames. Billy and his wife are real active in their community and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I consider myself lucky to count...
