Good reading. Thanks for starting the post.
I've been tossing the same question with my '82. With the info provided, think going headers and straight back pipes under the car is the way for me.
Cheers!

Question:
Is there anything else that can kill the fuel pump electrically?
Yesterday without warning the car would not start. Upon turning the key, no familiar whirring sound from the rear of the car just before starting.....
...and a dead gas gauge. No movement from the needle.

-Car is cranking fine.
-No gas up front at the injectors.
Today:
Replaced the Fuel Pump...
I bought a heater core...made in Mexico and dubious if the welds are okay. Went to Napa Auto Parts today and all they list now is the Chinese-made Heater cores for my year.
Any other American-made heater cores out there, please let me know!
I'll spend the extra $ to keep my American Sports car...
I'm in the same boat with my '82.
Hedman headers part #88301-6, along with AC bracket #20110 (Ecklers has the bracket), will accept the use of the stock smog pump and the stock air pipes/fittings into the header.
However....
Have you thought about the tranny cross-member situation? We...
Thanks for the info. I visited the sites and found them to be a great resource.
I pulled the codes again after clearing them out.
With the car NOT moving, NO code 24. I have the speedo repair job on my list and that should solve it.
Code 42 does pop on again. ;(
I pulled the ECM, checked...
Grats on the '82 (my 1st as well).
Had mine since '86 and the garage is full of car parts and tools as a result. lol
Get to know her and get the manuals to upkeep her, you'll be fine.
Mine has been a love/hate relationship. Currently I'm happy to report, we are in love.

Finally had time to pull the codes (thanks for the paperclip idea!)
The CEL comes on within a sec or two of start up and stays on:
Code 24- Vehicle Speed Sensor (The speedo currently not working...any relation to this? Doubtful as the car is in park when the light first comes on.)
Code 42-...
I'm thinking out loud here so thanks for following along and your input!
...Looks like I may have to replace the AC Compressor. The car still blows cool air fine when on once or twice a minute the clutch freezes in place for a second and catches again. (causing the poor AC belt to do a...
Winter projects coming up!
I'm replacing the interior/weather stripping/ and adding a DeWitt Radiator. Plans include to get ahead of the curve and replace the heater core/hoses at the same time.
While there are no problems with core I'm aware off, it has been 15 years since a replacement.
I'm...
As time moves further away from the C3's... (getting close to 30 years since the last one was made!)...perhaps ALL C3's may be referred to as Stingrays or Sharks by those where were not born yet.
Teaching at a college (with freshmen born in 1992! Gasp!) I've found that they all look at the C3...
Side story:
Battery just died on a trip and got her into the gas station that thankfully sold batteries.
The install was free.
However after 10 minutes, the poor confused mechanics came back and could not figure out where the battery was! The were scratching their head while looking under the...
I have the one sided trans cross member to contend with (which I know Corvette Central has the "off-road" work-around pipes thanksfully) but the main thing is the air sensor from the Cat to deal with.
I've heard of heated air sensors but not sure how the '82 ECM will deal with it.
One second delay was normal for mine. I'm was used to the "clunk"...then "clunk" again as the 2nd light pops up. The driver's always is last to go up or down. Recently the left refused to budge until I get out, do a Fonzie on it... then it moves.
Since I've replaced everything over the years...
Thanks for the info and sharing the images! I had not thought about that route. ;)
What is your best guess on the performance gain you received overall?

Here’s the issue and I feel like I’m walking through a mine field on this new post. lol
I have a stock ’82 with 300,000 + miles on the original manifold and now has a hair line crack(s) and needs replacement. With vacuum leaks and small amounts of radiator fluid leaking into the pocket...
