GM's V8 Production Down by Half - Should Next Gen Corvette Adopt a V6 to Keep Up with the Times?

Chevrolet tried to turn the Corvette into a "chick car" years ago and almost destroyed the brand. Why do we think there is discussion of a V6 at GM? Is there a shortage of aluminum? Is there a shortage of steel? No, we have a situation in which some MBAs are brainstorming ways to make the...

GM's V8 Production Down by Half - Should Next Gen Corvette Adopt a V6 to Keep Up with the Times?

Ah yes! There is nothing quite like the reverberating roar of 1,000 AAA batteries thundering up a twisty mountain road!

GM's V8 Production Down by Half - Should Next Gen Corvette Adopt a V6 to Keep Up with the Times?

As Road & Track said in the 2011 Best Driver's Car Test: "The GT-R was the fastest in a straight line, but, the Corvette ZO6 was the fastest around the Laguna Seca track by a huge margin." The GT-R is a two ton computer controlled pony car without a soul. Fast in a straightline yes, but still...

GM's V8 Production Down by Half - Should Next Gen Corvette Adopt a V6 to Keep Up with the Times?

Consider that there are currently three primary reasons why the Corvette is looked down on by the global world of automotive performance sophisticates. First, it has a "plastic" body. Second, it has a "plastic" interior with poor ergonomics. Third, it has seats unfit for a Volkswagen. It...

    Bought a 2004

Chuck- Welcome to the highly addictive and wonderful world of C5 Verts! With every drive the love will grow. I loved my two C4's also, but this is just a whole other game. Sincere wishes for a wonderfully warm & balmy year of New York weather and top down cruising. Shows us the pics! -Perry

    They Just Look Better Lowered

This is as low as it can go due to our very steep driveway. Still takes a very slow 30 degree approach angle to enter/exit the driveway. Also needs to cross really big speedbumps very slowly. Otherwise, she handles better in every respect and to my eye the stance looks so much better than...

With Viper splitting from Dodge, should Corvette have separated from Chevy?

I know a couple of the biggest names in Corvette racing over the last 40 years. They have fought the battles you mention with GM & Chevrolet MBA's face to face on many occasions. None of them has ever uttered a word in favor of splitting Corvette from Chevrolet or GM. They are some of the...

With Viper splitting from Dodge, should Corvette have separated from Chevy?

I know that when the C4 ZR1 was being developed, Dick Guldstrand strongly pushed Chevrolet to make it very unique ... a "Super Vet" if you will ... and have two levels of Corvette. Chevrolet staunchly refused. They were afraid that the Super Vet with a unique power train and body would wind...

    Question: which oil???

There has been some references to best oil filters. I usually use the GM filter, but last time we drained changed the oil out and opened the new GM filter, it was damaged. The shop had some Bosch filters but no GM. I decided to go with the Bosch. So far no sign of problems, but curious if...

Need Help with New C5 Wheels Decision

I wanted to say thanks very much for all the time folks spent responding on these issues. For a variety of reasons I decided to stick with the C5 ZO6 look. We found the 18x9.5 chromes for the front. There are no more chrome 19x11 rears being made but we have bought two black finish 19x11...

Need Help with New C5 Wheels Decision

Thanks again. I agree that would provide a nice safety buffer. Apparently there is no rhyme or reason as to why one C5 never has a problem with 18/18 and then the next setup done on a different C5 with the same wheels gets constant messages.

Need Help with New C5 Wheels Decision

I was wondering about that same possible solution just last night. Thanks for explaining it so well. Certainly worth considering. But that 19x11 lets me go to 305/30. Decisions, decisions.. Many thanks...

Need Help with New C5 Wheels Decision

I appreciate everyone responding and I really do like the looks of 6 Shooters Cray wheels and might eventually consider them. However, for right now I have to stick with the C5 ZO6 wheels for a number of reasons. I have the fronts in hand, so now I need the 19/11 rears. As I feared, a number...

Need Help with New C5 Wheels Decision

Looking for some input here. My '02 C5 Vert has ZO6 calipers and Baer drilled/slotted rotors and C5 ZO6 Factory Reproduction wheels in the C5 base sizes -17x8.5 & 18x9.5 with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP's. I want to upgrade the tires to Michelin Super Sports so figure this is the time to...

What tires are you running and why?

I would appreciate knowing what size wheels you are running those tires on. I have a C5 vert with standard size wheels. They are ZO6 look 17x8.5 & 18x9.5 wheels. I want to run the widest tires in the rear that I safely can if they also enhance overall handling and performance. The car has a...

Need Expert Help With Unusual C5 Oil Issues

Please let me clarify that I have no specific opinions about the quality of GM Blue filters. On the other hand, as a general rule, I've always been somewhat leery of any OEM's oil filter. In fact, I don't know of any other group of automotive enthusiasts who so loyally and confidently use a...
