I have an Oct 67 delivered '68 and the VIN tag is on the left hand windshield pillar.....not fancy by any means...just an embossed plate riveted on....
Let me do some more reading tonite....seems odd that just unplugging some items would cause this message.....was battery disconnected when you performed all this work?

There are some other numbers on a sticker that it's too dang cold to stand out there with a magnifying glass to read....
This may not be the original carb, will get other numbers and maybe you can figure it out....
Think mine is a 4MV, automatic choke with thermostatic coil mounted on the intake manifold...is yours like this?
Will get ID/part number and anything else off it later and update this post....

Always nice to see another member with a '68. There's a few of us lurking here and we'll help all we can.
Best thing you can do if you intend to work on this thing is get the Assembly Manual from one of the Vette parts suppliers. The book is invaluable.
You'll find that some parts...
Have you tried the Helm Inc site? Unless you just want a used set...
Pay full price but they are new....135.00 I think.....
