    Factory Radar Detector

Went home for lunch and dug up the literature on it. I actually have a warranty card, glossy brochure and installation instructions. It is a model CV-200 radar detector made by a company caled American Antenna. Specially made for Corvettes. Nothing indicating a date of manufacture or...

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

Thanks for the input Vigman. The car cranks fine, catches and then dies within two seconds. So it runs under bypass mode but dies when it tries to switch to EST mode. This switchover occurs when the engine gets to 400 to 600 RPM. This indicates to me that the plug wires, cap and rotor, coil and...

    Factory Radar Detector

Me Too I have one of these too. I have all the original paperwork. I'll take a look at it tonight and report back. My dash is torn apart due to my no run condition ( see Hard start/No start thread) so I will be removing mine. It is pretty obsolete. It powers up but gives all sorts of false...

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

What Next? I swapped in a new ECM last night. AC-Delco reman from Rockauto. The car behaves the same. :mad Cranks/catches/dies. I must now send in my old, original apparently working ECM for the core charge because I can't send back the new one. I prefer to have the original but I guess it...

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

PROM Source ejball. In the course of researching parts for my problem, I found that Rockauto.com has PROM chips for our cars. Go to Rockauto .com and select "electrical" in the tree. There are subheadings for ECMs and CHips. Good Luck.

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

The Latest Received my reman ECM yesterday from Harris Performance in North Carolina. Excellent service. I ordered it on Monday. Now for the bad news . I swapped it in and all sorts of crazy stuff happened. It actually cranked once and then stopped. Then the cooling fans started up and...

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

ecss - I have read that about the injectors somewhere else in this forum. A quick look at the wiring diagram shows that this is definitely possible. However, I don't think it is consistent with the behavior of my car - crank, catch, die. If one injector was shorted, the injectors wouldn't work...

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

Update/Recap Replaced the ignition module with an inexpensive one from NAPA and still have the crank/catch/die behavior. This leaves the ECM as the culprit. Ordered a reconditioned one from Harris Performance in North Carolina through ebay just a few minutes ago. Here's a recap of what I...

    Tune Up?

Tune Up PArts Try the store "thepartsladi" on ebay. They have AC Delco "Kits" A tune up kit and a filter kit for reasonable prices. I got a water pump from them last year. Good service and pricing. :upthumbs

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

Update Took apart the dash this weekend and troubleshot the VATS Decoder Module. It is apparently operating properly. I get all the correct voltages. The trouble shooting procedures say that this points to the ECM!:ohnoes I will keep the dash apart for now because I think it is more likely...

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

New Fuel Pump - Still No Start Troubleshot down to the fuel pump and replaced it this weekend. Same behavior. :mad Replacing the fuel pump is not diffucult at all. There was mistake in the Service Manual though. To run the fuel pump with the engine off to test the pressure regulator, it...

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

Fleet Maintenance Got the Vette pushed into the garage but spent last night removing the muffler from my son's 88 MR2. :eyerole I brought it back to life with an engine swap last August. Thanks for the response Junk. I will get it up on ramps tonight and try to find a place to squeeze off...

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

Small Update Checked fuel pressure again last night. 25 PSI max with the key turned to the on position a couple of times. Pressure bleeds off slightly over 20 minutes. I am now supposed to slowly squeeze off the fuel return line to isolate the problem to the fuel pump or pressure regulator...

    Hard Start/No Start Troubleshooting Log

I took my 89 out for a drive the day after I returned from vacation last week. Did about 40 minutes of highway driving then stopped at Walmart. Drove from Walmart to the Grocery store. Tried to leave. The car fired but then shut down after a few seconds. Had her towed home. :mad By the...

Corvette Wont Start Yet Has Full Power

VATS maybe? +1 with Spanishvetes on the jacking. :) I would suspect a malfunction of the VATS system for your no start. ;shrug You have an ingition key with a resistor chip in it, right? I believe this became standard equipment in 86. If VATS is messed up, nothing happens! Do some...

    Vortex Rammer

Up to a Poit I agree with Nelson up to a point. At speed, you would get some benefit from a "ram air affect". However, even on a dyno you are getting your intake air from outside the engine compartment. This air is ostensibly cooler and therefore denser. Denser air equals more power. Right?

    Brake Question on 1989....?

ABS Sounds like the ABS testing itself. Turn up the radio like I do and you won't hear these little sounds that make you go Hmm. I turned down my radio and now I am investigating a mysterious clunk coming from the rear! :ohnoes

    Clunk! Clunk!

Can't Finish Unless You Start! My biggest issue with any project is usually getting started! I just need to get it up on jackstands and start. Of course I also need to change the fuel pump on my daughter's supercharged Tacoma. Or I could get going again on the irrigation system for the yard...
