Max Pressure
This tire pressure question comes up occasionally here on the CAC. On all my vehicles, not just the Vette, I run tire pressures at the max pressure listed on the sidewall of the tire. I do so because I assume the higher the pressure the lower the rolling resistance and the better...
Tom is meticulous and more than competent. I have seen his work personally. He has posted some of his projects here with pics.( see seat leather resto! ) When the time comes, and that will be sooner than later, to replace weather strip, I will be buying from Lonestar Muscle Car. :D
The ten years I spent wrenching on my 1970 Malibu Convertible really prepared me for owning a Vette. I couldn't own it if I had to have all the work done by others. So far I have serviced the transmission, changed the fluid in the differential, fixed the headlight bushings, swapped the seats...
What ecss said!
That's a pretty complete description. I was able to do this job without removing the compressor from the bracket a couple of months ago. But there were several smaller bolts down underneath that were a pain to get to. May have been easier to do it like ecss said.
A Noble Cause
You are doing a good thing. In many cases, the family just wants to dump the car and get the money. Stay away from typical dealerships. They just aren't interested in giving your car the attention it deserves. Productivity is the name of the game. The Corvette Fever list...
Good Info!
I went through this a little less than a year ago. Had the tool but it was worn and would only remove three of the four center cap lock bolts. Which tire did I pick up a nail in? Of course, the one with the unremovable center cap lock bolt? :ugh Took it to a local Corvette shop who...
AHHHHHH!
At that price and with the car being in Colorado springs, I would have had to risk making the wife mad! Now, I'm mad :mad ! How did I miss this post!
23 MPG
Last year on a 2300 mile trip to Phoenix and back I averaged 23MPG confirmed by manual calculation. I just returned yesterday from a trip to Rapid City, S.D., the Black Hills and the Badlands. 1065 miles. 23 MPG. This included speeds in excess the 80s most of the way as well as some...
I bought them used with tires from a local Corvette shop. That won't help you. Look around on the internet or in Corvette magazines. They are out there. You will have to look a little harder at the ads because like most stuff with the C4s, they aren't the latest and greatest product they...
88 MR2
A 1988 MR2. My most recent project. The car was given to me with a blown engine. Did an engine swap and fussed with the whole bonded title drill and voila! 30 MPG around town and I can park it anywhwere. The next teenager gets it soon though!
Snow Already?
Way to perpetuate the myth Bill! ;) I have a double header on Sunday and then leave Monday morning for a tournament in Phoenix. So no long drives this weekend. It ought to be beautiful though. Enjoy!
Doug and Rick- Thanks for the compliments. The car did turn out looking...
Just Completed This Job
Just did a new waterpump on my 89 two weeks ago. You do need to remove everything from the front of the engine. It offers a great opportunity to clean off the front of the engine like Tyrel said. I ended up taking off the alternator and air pump and the brackets for...
Go for It!
Changing the plastic bushings is not difficult and it is inexpensive. There are articles on the forum and the latest Corvette Magazine has a new article on this standard DIY fix. Everybody does it. Jump off the bridge.:_rock
Needed to have a shakedown cruise after replacing the water pump. Went the back way up to Breckenridge over Hoosier Pass and then back to Denver. 190miles. 26 MPG with some stretches of "spirited" driving !:lou No leaks! Here's a couple of pics. As you can see, I had no fun at all!;)...
Stuck Hoods
The mod in the CF forum looks easy and interesting. Having the Gordon Killebrew release tool is worthless unless you practie with it before you actually need it! :nono If I remember correctly , you need to turn it back and forth like a combination lock to feed it into the area and...
