Autotap or similar? C4C5specialist or anyone else-

Hey c4c5-- Can you recommend a more affordable alternative to the Tech 2 that would have "a lot of the function needed to do professional diagnosis and repair"? I'd like to put my service manuals (and my enjoyment of troubleshooting!) to more effective use. Thanks, Fred

    C5 Shop Manual

After getting outbid several times on eBay, I just decided to bite the bullet and buy new manuals. I got them from Helm, Inc.: http://www.helminc.com Happy reading! :) Fred

    Tire Balance

Is this a typo in C&D? The C5 coupes should reach 175mph, and the Z06 & convertible about 171-172mph...

;LOL Well, at least you're honest about yourself... :D Take it easy, FT

    beat them

Hey z06nut, would you kindly consider sprinkling some punctuation marks in with your posts, please? I want to read what you have to say, but you're killin' me here... :) Thanks, Fred

    garage jack

I bought the Craftsman aluminum racing jack from Sears. It's pretty easy to handle @ 44lbs, and has a low profile that's nice to have with a Vette. I paid a bit more than I wanted to, but I do think I got a good, quality jack for the money I spent. It cost me $179, on sale from $199. [Holy cow...

    C6 on Chevrolet.com!!!!!!!!

Just giving you a hard time, bluecoupe-- and couldn't pass up an opportunity to slam Microsoft while I had the chance... :D I guess I didn't expect "an entirely new Corvette" like you did, since I knew that the C5 was really an incredible platform on which to build. A recent article I read...

    1997 coupe

Hi Prostuff-- Welcome to the CAC! Yes, I believe that the AC and circulate lights being on is normal-- I don't think "AC" in our climate control systems is merely limited to cold air. I think that this light being on simply means that the air is being, well, "conditioned" :D in some way other...

    Run Flat repair

I believe I read somewhere that plugging can cause the steel belts to separate apart where the plug is, causing a weak spot in the tire at that point. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

    C6 on Chevrolet.com!!!!!!!!

Oh, God! Please don't taint the good Corvette name by associating it with products (esp. operating systems) from Microsoft! :D BTW, for those having trouble finding the spots on Chevy's site, just go straight to the Corvette page, http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette and click on the link for "Car...

    C6 Advertized on TV tonight

They've got the 1- and 2-minute versions of the spot at http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette. Look in the lower left for the "Car Carrier" spot link. Pretty awesome! I had no idea, since I figured the first we'd see would be the unveiling to the press on the 4th. I just happened to check the...

    memory not remembering

Yeah, that's what I meant to say... :D You definitely just have to press the Unlock button on the fob for memory to engage. Don't have to lock first. I double-checked this this morning and it was correct. Shutting the door after key ignition triggers memory to engage, assuming the other...

    memory not remembering

I believe this is different in the 2000 and later models. If [my] memory serves, I think that inserting the key first, then closing the door will trigger the memory function to kick in when the door latches shut. Next time I get a chance to check, I'll find out for sure and post back. L8r, Fred

    memory not remembering

For the 2000 and newer models, you have to have locked the car and then unlocked it with the key fob for the memory functions to kick in when you put the key in the ignition. If you have not locked and unlocked, you can always simply press the memory button for the selection you wish to...

    130 Psi ??? !!! ???

Yeah, this is a pretty common problem. My '98 coupe had it, too. Do a search in this forum for something like "oil 130" or "oil pressure", and you'll find several threads discussing the problem. Basically, it's a problem with the sending unit, not the actual oil pressure. I believe the part is...

    Hard Wire for Valentine V-1

Check that previous thread again for my solution. In short, my car stereo guy ran the wire along the top of the windshield, down the driver's side A-pillar, and under the dash, connecting it there. Now, this was a Passport 8500 with the optional wiring harness. I'm not sure if it would work the...

    V8's vs. 4 bangers with a turbo

Gotta agree with you here, Leon. When I read this statement by corvettecrazy: ...my first thought was, "Yeah, but you can still still :D modify the Vette, too, to once again produce more power than the import. This type of argument seems to imply that the Vette's power output is frozen in time...

    Buying a used C5

Another good place to browse for info is the Tech Center Knowledgebase here: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/kb/category.php?catId=6 Some common problems that come to mind are: - Steering Column Lock - Seat movement under acceleration/deceleration - Noise (rattling) from 6-spd...

    Best Wax for a C5

I use Meguiar's myself, and think their stuff does a pretty darned good job. I hear everyone rave about Zaino, but it seems to be an awful lot of steps. Anyway, I think mine looks pretty awesome after a good cleaning and application of Meguiar's Gold Class wax. L8r, Fred
