Ed:
In the course of doing exhaust development work on the C5 cars, I drove several Lingenfelter-tuned C4's belonging to GM.
One enormously impressive car was a convertible LT-1 with an automatic that would absolutely LEAP forward when you pressed the exhilirator; it had the standing-start...
You can expect frequent alternator replacement if the car is driven infrequently, and the battery is not kept on a charger. With the constant drain from the computer, etc., every time you start the car, the battery is somewhat discharged and the alternator has to work its' diodes off to...
Edmond is definitely making a mistake running pure antifreeze; antifreeze has less than half the specific heat of water, meaning a given amount of water will increase in temperature only half as much as a given amount of ethylene glycol, when the same amount of heat is applied.
All you need...
Right again, of course. The fluid does not change its' viscosity, which is a molecular property of the fluid, but it changes its' flow characteristics, or what most people think of as viscosity.
For example, you throw a lot of mud into a stream of water, you haven't changed the viscosity of...
Contacted RJ Performance, they said they don't have rebuild kits but would be happy to get me a rebuilt M/C.
I did that locally, $80 and a couple hours work, and I'm back on the road. Toughest part was putting th reservoirs on the rebuilt master. I improvised tools for doing this - from wood...
Beware any solution that goes "against the regular rules of physics" - those are the rules that make our cars run. Quantum physics doesn't apply here, and phasers don't work yet, either.
Trust me on this one - vibrations is the field that I have my degrees in.
And if you're interested, I can...
Like most everyone else, I see oil temps 10 - 15 degrees hotter than coolant temps most of the time. At 70 mph level road cruising, right about 100 degrees higher than ambient air temp, when the coolant is right about 90 degrees above ambient.
And unfortunately, conventional oils are breaking...
I just installed a rebuilt unit last weekend in my '89. Cost $80 plus tax at my local unaffiliated parts store. No brand I'd ever heard of.
The toughest part was re-installing the reservoirs. Not having "special tool 'xy-1234'" I had to completely ignore the service manual instructions, and...
Larry:
Try replacing the exhaust hangers, especially the rubber pieces that the bayonet hangers go into at the rear of the muffler. When these parts wear out, you have a direct sound path into the car, plus the rattles. Softer rubber at the bayonets will also help significantly in reducing...
You can't dynamically balance wheel and tire assemblies with weights at one lip (inside or outside) only.
Unless that particular wheel has imbalance in the plane of the lip only.
It's not physically possible.

Like someone else said, the most important thing is to get a tire tech with an IQ above room temperature;
altogether too many will put balance weights on either the inside or the outside ONLY.
Another common failing is to mis-locate the weights, and then not re-check the balance by giving the...
And let's not give ALL the credit to GM; companies such as Lord Corporation have been researching and developing manetorheological damping products for a number of years, and applying them to non-suspension damping problems.
I don't know that Hib's (excellent! BTW) story fully makes that point...
Re: I have an extra
Fair indeed; my mount is fine. How did yours get "thrashed"?
This is for the "pusher" fan that mounts ahead of the readiator?
Contact me, please.

Maybe we could re-package the contents of this thread and publish it?
There are a number of texts out there, such as "Scientific Design of Exhaust & Intake Systems" by Morrison & Smith that have useful information in them, backed up by some theory, but I think you could expect to...
Well, I checked for leaks; no leaks, fluid level is fine.
What I DO have is a pedal that will slowly go all the way to the floor if I maintain pressure on it, and the brake failure light stays on, indicating that the proportioning valve has shuttled.
Yesterday I discovered that, although the aux cooling fan motor is running merrily, the fan itself is not turning! It's free-wheeling on the motor shaft. Speaking of which, I've priced new ones...
Has anyone out there succeeded in repairing one of these, either with a replacement fan -...
