    headlight wiring

If you are interested in getting the most out of your lights put in a relay kit. Look for Daniel Sterns lighting and read his info. The voltage drop in the factory setup is stealing about 20% of the brightness you could get. My 87 wiring had nearly .5v drop through it. Using relays and new...

    Dana 44 Drain Plug

My 87 D36 was drilled nearly 10 years ago. We did it at my buddies shop and used an old outboard gearcase magnetic drain plug about 3/8". The hole is in the bottom about where the one in the picture is. It's made over 100K miles since then, no leaks or other problems. JS

    Half-shaft installation.

Do a search on u-joint replacement, someone has posted pictures and a good how-to. If the u-joints have zerks you won't be able to get to them when they are in the car with any grease gun I know of. I think that is a major reason the factory used solid u-joints. Get good quality solid u-joints...

    Calipers

They have caliper rebuild kits with piston seals and dust boots. You be the judge about just replacing the one dust boot. JS

    1989 Automatic Reputation

My street driven stock 87 has 206k miles on it and still shifts fine and has never had any trash in the pan when I get around to changing the fluid.Change the fluid and filter then put a bottle of Lube Guard in it and drive it. If the car has the orginal trans it it and hasn't had problems it's...

A/C evaporator bad, any tricks to change it?

Your 96 has R-134a right? Do a auto AC search. There are air cure epoxy sealants, not the cheap stuff at AutoZone. That will seal very slow leaks. I haven't seen them but I have seen advertisements, (take them for what you will) from AC shops that swear by them. The stuff is the first order...

    Anyone know what this is?

Without seeing the lamps, my guess they are "city lights" euro cars use them as parking lights. since vetts have flip up headlights just leave them un-hooked. If they have blue bulbs get rid of them. The cheapest H4 bulbs (hi-low replaceable bulbs I think) stock watt, white will put out...

    Sound system

I finally trashed the bose in my 87. You know the amps are in the speakers and the speakers are wierd 1.8ohm or close. The 87 also has a common speaker ground. With the wiring diagram you can figure out how to split out grounds for each speaker at the radio plug. (If you don't have the Helm...

    R12 or change to r134?

There are some drop in replacements. They have about the same cooling capacity as R-12. They are blends. To convert to R-134a the oil MUST be changed. R-134a won't circulate the mineral oil. The system will cool fine until the oil ends up at the bottom of the system out of the compressor and...

    Big problem with my 86'.

O2 sensor is before the pre-cat. If cats are plugged when you run the engine at 2000 for a minute the exhaust manifold will glow a dull red and the vaccuum will also drop. If you install a new cat it will pass a smog test without pre-cats. You can deal with the pre-cat situation in a couple...

    '92 vibration

You might have a torque converter/ transmission problem going on. If it's in the transmission it should do it on other gears besides OD. I'm inclined to say any car over 100K miles has worn out half-shaft u-joints. My 200K mile 87 is working on it's second set of half-shaft u-joints. Don't...

    Best fuel pump replacement?

I think it's RaceTronix, they have a wiring upgrade kit along with a walbro pump that should do what you want. JS

    Brembo Brakes????????

Yes, it's expensive. Brembo (they're on Porcshe, Ferarri ect) Wildwood, Alcon, Stoptech, Movit, Baer are all aftermarket highend brake companies. Doug Rippie, Lingenfelter, Mallet and all the other corvette tuners use their parts in kits. To upgrade calipers and rotors (not just drilled but...

    Royal Purple

Mobil 1 went over 215k miles in my 77 impala without ANY lifter or valve train noise. It had it in it when it first came out and the car had Havoline for the first 50K. Since at the time I was and Airman and needed to know how little money I had to put in it's tank I kept a record of every drop...

    Are Tire Plugs Safe?

FYI, Firestone, Bridgestone company policy was to only patch tire, and plug the hole to keep water from getting the tire body. They would prorate replacement at your option. A patch eliminates the speed rating. JS

    Xenon or HID Headlights

The hella's are good you can also get Ciebe lamps with replaceable bulbs. They make a HUGE difference. If you want real light and drive at night enough look for Daniel Sterns Lighting. He sells overwatt bulbs and a relay kit. Don't put overwatt bulbs in without a relay kit. Mine draw over...

    another bose question

I dumped the bose in my 87. My family got me an Alpine with MP3 player and I ditched the amps and all and wired it right to the speakers (you have to do some rewiring in the radio plug and at the speakers). It took an afternoon but the bose speakers sound ok. even though they are wierd low...

    c 4 radiator

Thats a copper/brass radiator. Since its 3 row it should cool better than a stock radiator. I've seen 2 row copper/brass radiators sold as stock replacements. JS
