    Gas mileage

I had it at John's Corvette Service having the window regulator replaced, and asked him to check over the carb and timing at the same time. I think all he found that needed fixing was the vacuum advance on the distributor, but it was like a whole different car, afterward! Joe

    Parting out a 1981 Vette

In other words, you're saying that I'm going to have loads of fun on the install, eh? Where did the wires run? Across under the dash? Joe

Got the mirrors are associated parts. Now, to find time to install them... thanks, Joe

    mathmatical gear ratio question

Current Ratio, divided by current RPM's, and then multiply the result by the desired RPM's. It all depends on which numbers you use as your current and desired rpm's, but the results all hover near 5.54:1, with your ranges. Joe

    Transaxles

Just popping this back up, in case anyone has new ideas. So far, it seems that the only streetable option in a currently-manufactured longitudinal transaxle that has the differential up front is Quaife, and their prices are, shall we say, a bit on the high side... Out of curiousity, does...

    Should I get a ZR-1?

Way cool offer! Dover is about half an hour from me. I'll be sending you an email ASAP! Not too shabby. It would be interesting to see how much of a change drag radials would have on that. :) Joe

    stainless rotors ?

Yeah, I have doubts, as well. Just didn't want to leave it at "no," since it's possible that someone might go to the trouble... :) Joe

    stainless rotors ?

Just a minor detail: an aftermarket supplier could drill stock rotors without issues, if they used proper heat treatment procedures, to eliminate the stresses caused by the drilling. I'm not aware if any do this... Joe

    Should I get a ZR-1?

I've kept an eye out, but I'm having a few issues to deal with, on this one... The 93-95 ZR1's are still a bit out of my price range (unless I stumble across a killer deal), and I hate to get a 90-92 car, when I know that the later ones are likely to be within my price range, in a few years...

    Parting out a 1981 Vette

Can you check the color tag? If it's RPO 59 (Corvette Light Beige), then it's already a match for my car. :cool I'm definitely interested. Do you know if it's much trouble to access the mounting bolts that hold the mirrors to the door? Also, how much for the water temp guage? Thanks, Joe

    building a stroker

It has to do with bore:stroke ratio. An engine with equal bore and stroke is called "square." An engine with longer stroke than bore is "undersquare." Reverse that for larger bore than stroke, and you have an "oversquare" engine. Undersquare engines are rare. Even square engines are pretty...

    Request: Drivetrain dimensions...

Does anyone have dimensioned drawings of the engine and transaxle for the C5? Or, for starters, does anyone know the length from the front of the transaxle to the centerline of the drive yokes? Same question for the engine: front of the engine, to the face where the bellhousing mounts? And...

    Parting out a 1981 Vette

Can the power mirrors be retrofitted to an earlier car (say, a '79)? If so, what color are they (or can the guts be installed in my case), and how much? Joe

    Transaxles

Thanks. It's an interesting article, from what I've read so far. But the diff is at the back of the transaxle, not the front :( Joe
  16. MaineShark

    Transaxles

Really? How'd they manage to get the diff in front of the gearbox, instead of behind? I'm not doubting your information, since I don't know, but if that's the case, it suggests that an existing transmission might be converted to a front-differential transaxle in some manner, which would...

    '79 L82 high-performance project

Updated ad with more information. (a little dusty at the body shop when the hood was first painted/installed - it polishes up much nicer than that) Joe

    '79 L82 high-performance project

Well, it looks like the Shark has to go. I need to simplify things a bit, and having two performance cars just doesn't work for me right now. So I'm selling the Shark and my Grand National, and I'm probably going to buy an already-modified C4. That should work well, since I want to be driving...

are you a true hotrodder? or just a guy installing aftermarket parts

Definitely. That's why I'm selling my Grand National. It's too nice to start modifying, and I'm not having much fun keeping it stock. So it has to go, to someone who will enjoy it for its originality. My '79's also going to have to go to someone who will appreciate the work I've put into it...

    Transaxles

Well, I guess I should have specified "still in production." I'll see what I can dig up from ZF, if they have any current offerings that would work... Joe
